find someone with a rope and climb High Exposure. Pretty easy climb if you can get over the fear.

I had done some stupid free climbing in my hiking of the Adirondacks days, so I have worked that out of my system (and luckily survived the experience).

Where's Rowan? I'm getting the impression that Australia is always on fire these days.

We're in Canada still, watching all this go on from afar. We are flying out on the 16th, and secretly I am hoping all this extremely hot weather is done with by the time we get back. I had enough of it in 2009, and I can't stand temps above 30degC (86degF) anymore.

Also true. Granola cannot be eaten plain.

Sure it can.

What is your job? Does it depend on you having a licence?

Yeah, keep telling me that.

I've done more gym work than I've ever done in my life over the past three weeks (which isn't a difficult record seeing I've never been a member of a gym before), and I've lost three pounds. And I have cut back on my eating.

But then a pair of pants I had no hope of doing up around the waist a fortnight ago... I can now wear with the button done up. Go figure.

I couldn't describe the taste difference between red and golden beets. I'm not a beet fan, generally - just taste like dirt to me. However, Mrs. rjones28's trick to get me to eat my beets is to roast them. That improves the flavor.

Well, it probably doesn't improve the flavour. The seasonings and oil she puts on them before cooking them does that.

now i'm dreaming of roasted beets with goat cheese, and candied walnuts... yum. last time i had that was at a restaurant where i also tried pork jowl for the first time. it was ok. the beets were awesome though.

See what I mean?

Yup, those are my environs, keep me posted.

Beets infect everything else that is sharing the plate with them.

It's freezing here man. That 7AM ride this morning was too cold, even for me.

In all seriousness, I hope the Do bit comes through with Sam and he keeps on doing for a good while longer.

I think its a tough one. I know what you are saying, and have had many dogs, ferrets, and even some cats (by marriage), and they have all been enjoyable pets. I think this dog and I have had the most symbiotic/codependent relationship, and it would be me not warming to a new pup. But time changes things, and my girl has been doing fine. Knock on wood.

Oh I just assumed he knew I was talking biking season - April through mid-November for me.

I climbed quite a bit in the daks and the gunks when I was younger. It was fun, at the time, but I got over it.

but High exposure is only a 5:5 or a 5:6 (I forget which) climb. But it is appropriately named. At the crux move of the 3rd pitch (a roof) I completely froze out of fear.

yeah, me too. I haven't climbed since I left NJ in 94.

I spent two years living down the road from Lincoln Woods in RI and I did a ton of bouldering. I really dug it. I mostly got tired of scaring the crap out of myself, and once I figured out my athletic skills were endurance based and not balance racing bikes made a lot more sense.

RollCNY 01-09-13 03:35 PM

I never had height issues, or the healthy fear that you are supposed to have, until I took my eldest to the top of Whiteface. He was 7 or 8, and was darting all over, hopping over rocks, zipping under the rails in the walk from the weather station down, and he totally freaked me out. I could just see him disappearing over an edge. After that, I still would hike, but would get easily wigged out when in close proximity to a fall. I have gone up the Basin to Saddleback climb a few times since then, but have gotten totally freaked on my attempt to go the opposite way, with the cliff descent. And that's a little bugger.

I actually doubt that. I'm wildly over read and over educated.

datlas 01-09-13 03:46 PM

Did a pretty fast paced club ride, 54 miles....then went swimming.

No wonder I am beat.

Did I miss anything today?

gsteinb 01-09-13 03:47 PM

Swimming may be the only thing dumber than running.
