Cold Spring Line

The train rolled out in darkness

The Hudson on our right

The hills were looming darkly

In the waning hours of night

Somewhere south of Beacon

The sun began to rise

I caught a glimpse of sadness

In her eyes ... We were ridin on the Cold Spring Line

Cold Spring Line

The city pulled us closer

Like moths go to a flame

The rain was falling harder

Like a coda to our pain

Somewhere north of Peekskill

We both knew we were through

It came ahead of schedule

Overdue ... over on the Cold Spring Line

Cold Spring Line

Hudson Valley

Brilliant light

Painter’s canvas

River’s might

Holds a sadness

Haunts our lives

Ridin on the Cold Spring Line

Cold Spring Line

There’s a price for aching beauty

The bill is always due

It’s a picture perfect postcard

That holds its spell on you

Somewhere on the River

An echo cries for you

And if you’re there to hear it

Clear and high

You’ll be ridin on the Cold Spring Line

Cold Spring Line

That Hudson Line train ride is actually awesomely beautiful and an inspiration to many.

Good day so far. Woke up and had a leisurely cup of coffee, chatted again with the girl from Friday night and that went very well and without drama, then did a TrainerRoad 20 minute power test and got boosted from 234w to 251w. Pain, and that means more on the way for every workout now, but great to see improvement.

Very good day so far.

Want to make it really, really good. Take your friend to see "Silver Lining Playbook". Guaranteed post movie sex. Great flick.

58F out. Rain is coming. Time to ride.

2manybikes 02-10-13 01:00 PM

32 f hadrpack snow on the road turning to mush. Too warm for a good ride. Hopefully tomorrow is colder.

Every time a piece of snow on the roof falls off, Bailey thinks someone is at the door and starts barking.

RUOkie 02-10-13 01:14 PM

2 hr ride today upper 50's and windy. Great day for winter.

BillyD 02-10-13 01:22 PM

It's supposed to reach 43° here, but its struggling to reach 30. It ain't gonna happen.

Roads are mostly clear now but still some icy spots and tons of grit and grime.

Yesterday I skipped riding and went for a run AND a swim.

Same today.

I also spent about 10 hours this weekend volunteering at my daughters' synchronized swim meet. Some of those synchro girls are really good...I bet they spend more time training than anyone here does riding, though.

Why would anyone spend time in the pool if they could go riding??

:innocent:

Beautiful day for a bike ride. Unfortunately, I haven't even been outside since noon yesterday.

WhyFi 02-10-13 02:50 PM

Freezing rain and snow all day today. Time for vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge and crumbled Thin Mint cookies.

Welcome to Black Sunday . . . the first Sunday of the year without football. Oh woe is us, woe is us! :(

It's the beginning of a short but painful season, which seems much longer than it actually is, mitigated only by the second-most joyous time of the year - March Madness.

But until then we just aimlessly wander the home, hands pushed deep into pockets, hair uncombed, teeth unbrushed, bodies unbathed, searching for a meaning for life and reason to go on. :(

Some of us challenged the elements and mad drivers on bicycles today. Weird idea, I know.

Velo Vol 02-10-13 03:28 PM

If you're lucky, I might post a few pictures, too. Since LofP will probably disappoint with no video.

Why would anyone ride if they could swim or run? I sure don't. That's why I'm so weak on the bike. :(

The world needs more aquathlons.

Thanks for the valiant effort, LAJ, but it is in vain, for it is an event not to my liking.

Maybe I can find some old vcr tapes in the attic, chronicling the cowboyz long gone glory days.

or not. :(

You could always start being a fan of a good team. Like, I don't know, the Giants. ;)

Metal tire studs need need something hard to dig into and to grab. Hard flat glare ice is the best. Hard packed snow can be good too.It has nothing to do with the rubber grabbing the ground/surface, just the studs digging in. When the ice and the snow turn to water and slush the traction is lousy, Studded tires on pavement is lousy, just the little metal tips hitting the ground mostly. Slush is like lubricated pavement. Soft snow can be OK but the studs do nothing, it's like any knobby in snow, it can be very slippery too. The soft snow is harder to pedal in, and can hide very slippery stuff. The granulated chunks at road intersections in deep snow are very slippery too.

Got that? Glare ice-best, dry pavement-worst. Sounds crazy? :)
