Straight down the pipe. No muss, no fuss, just brought the heat.

Hey LAJ,

How many miles do you have in 2013?

RollCNY 02-12-13 03:11 PM

All of you guys with one bike make me feel decadent in having three. None of them are collectable, and they will all see use (I have to use the future tense, as one is new and only has trainer miles so far), but I now feel like a glutton.

One of the guys I ride with owns an LBS, and he asked me how many bikes I own. I guess maybe that should have been a sign.

I have 4 (if you count my wife's) and want 2 more. I will sell my old Raleigh since Lester didn't want it, sell her Specialized and then buy a 29er and if I ever get serious about training again, get a TT bike.

THAT is unecessary.

LAJ 02-12-13 03:26 PM

I have a bit over 1,400, Velo Vol. The miles will likely level off as intensity ramps up. Base nonsense is long gone, now I'm in the build/suffer mode.

LAJ 02-12-13 03:29 PM

My daily commuter is an 81, my summer commuter is a 90 Schwinn, and a couple racer-type bikes. I don't think it's too many at all. I may start commuting on the Ridley after I put the Quark on the November, and can then put the Powertap on the Ridley.

BillyD 02-12-13 03:33 PM

I basically own three - the Merlin and the Bridgestone split the heavy lifting, but I do take the '76 Schwinn out once a year for a nostalgia ride.

The wife keeps trying to con me into riding (adopting) her son's old mtb, but I can see right through that - I'm not having it.

RollCNY 02-12-13 03:34 PM

Please don't say Ridley. I have a case of the wants, and spousal permission. But if I go to 4 bikes, it means that one would have to go to the shed (three take up the garage) in the summer, and if I start using the shed, then I would have room for six. Slippery slope.

Hooks from the ceiling increase storage area in a large way.

Over 200/week during the winter.

Madness.

RUOkie 02-12-13 03:59 PM

I hang the bikes from the wall. I bought some of those rails and bike hooks from Lowes and for $50 had enough space for a dozen bikes.

We have 12 in the household, split evenly. It will likely be closer to 20 by the time we get two Bike Fridays, two recumbents, a tri for me and maybe a high-wheel/penny farthing...

We like bikes and riding them, and each so far has its uses... none is of museum or concours d'elegance standard.

Sorry to hear about your dad, LC.

Finished work early and went to the gym to discover the pool was closed for water aerobics and the weight room was packed. Didn't want to run or bike in 38deg and pouring rain. So I went home.

100 push-ups and ran my one flight of stairs 65 times before my legs said "uncle". Then did some core work.

LAJ 02-12-13 05:09 PM

Hoping for a smooth passing, LowCel. Never easy, but my thoughts are with you.

SempreCycling 02-12-13 05:09 PM

I plan my work from home days according to the weather predictions, though this does get me stuck in raining rush hour traffic almost all of the time (this time of the year).

Lemonade from lemons. Well done.

Thanks for the helpful non-helpful post. The 3 bike limit helps, as I find that I like building bikes as much as I like riding them. But I would fold for a Ridley Excalibur in Flandrien.
