I lack the interest, skill, ambition, desire and time for that. Now if there was a cycle, then cycle, followed by a cycling type triathlon, I would be on that like a monkey on a cupcake.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out.

Swimming 4x/week. Still slow but some improvement. Running is going well, I have been running about 30 miles per week, typically 6-9 miles at a time.

I was at the pool last night and a woman who I know through my girls' synchronized swim team was there. The last time we were both swimming she was faster than me....this time I was faster than her.

So there is progress....but still too slow.

Thanks for asking!

p.s. planning on 3 tri's this year, sprint in May, Olympic in the summer and HIM in September....and maybe philly marathon in November.

If you keep up the swimming 4x/ week, I think you'll be very comfortable when you hit your races and beat more triathletes than you expect (many are lucky they don't drown in the shower). Your running numbers imply not running 6x/ week - you'll be happier if you do get out for at least a mile on your other days.

Congrats on the progress! I'm really interested to see how you do on race day.

I wish I could do a two-man relay with someone like you. Swim, relax for a while as you ride, then hammer out the run.

There could be a cycling triathlon, of course. Something like cyclocross, MTB, then ITT. No sense in a road component, because if it were at the front no one would do anything besides cruise with the pack, and at the end, it'd be a de facto ITT anyway.

that sounds great. If you set it up, I'll buy a '29er and enter it. of course I'll do the cross part on my SS

I think I could do a HIM right now. Not very competitively, but I think I could do it.

My hope is to get up to 50%ile. We shall see.

How about a tri with this part in the water:

See, that's the kicker. You can do a HIM on 8hr/ week, if you want to complete it. To do well, you want to get more to the 12-14hr/ week range... but if you want to go fast in the shorter things, you're talking that level of training anyway. It does take more months (years) of training to get the endurance for HIM/ IM, but competitiveness starts at 12hr/ week for all of them.

I don't see it listed in the 41 as "moved" and there is no effin' way I am ever going into trollheim ever again, as long as I live. That place is a cesspool. It makes the 41 seem positively genteel and educated by comparison.

Need more road cycling-related content in TH.

actually yes. This is a community for fitness. I am constantly trying to encourage my under exercised patients to make lifestyle changes. One type of positive reinforcement can be found in online forums. The positive reinforcement I received both here and at SC helped me meet my goals.

If I were obese and trying to make a change and lurked here for advice, I would leave and never come back if that thread was on p1. The point of the thread was to make fun of fat people. Not "I'm too fat for this sport". Just "look at that funny looking fat guy/gal". So yeah, it offended me

He cray cray.

Make sure along with the training that you figure out how your body handles nutrition and hydration over that long of a distance. Feeding and watering yourself properly is just as important as being physically ready, as screwing that part up can ruin your whole event. Also, find out what brands/type of drink and food the organizer is using and figure out if your body can tolerate it beforehand.

y'all need to include the links to other threads.

Not taboo, but probably not possible for the too fat thread.
