Keep in mind that matte black is a ***** to keep looking nice.

You're right, however cleanings not the problem, not getting any scratches that's the problem !I'm learning that with my new SL 4. No damage yet but you got to be oh so careful!

I also feel like a carbon bike can be supplanted by the next, slightly-more-advanced carbon bike, but a good Ti frame is timeless. It may not be quite as good as the carbon ones in some technical ways, but I don't see myself suddenly lusting over the next year's model and wishing I had that instead. Except for the Lynskey Helix. When I was out running a week ago I got passed by a couple of old guys on Helix mountain bikes. I don't even like mountain bikes, but good god those tubes are pretty.

I have had a Merlin Ti/CF bike for eight years now, the cf is nude and gloss, not a mark on the frame and I ride it on everything. Ti is awesome. No rust, no marks, just timeless.

OK, time to ride. Make use of this glorious day. It gets cold and rainy tomorrow, so 80+miles today. Upper 60's with a high of 72 or so, and only light wind (only 8mph or so!!!). This is a once or twice a year kind of day.

Yesterday was warmer, but the wind was very high.

surgeonstone 03-16-13 07:26 AM

Have fun.

You're not making me lust less. ;)

I just wish they didn't have such a doctor and dentist reputation around here. Not that I'd let that stop me, of course.

So why no love for the Colnago? I thought it the perfect bike. Personally I always liked color over black. It just seems black bikes have become so common and blah.

It's just time for something new.

LowCel 03-16-13 07:31 AM

I really don't care for "colored" bikes. I am a black and white kinda guy. I'm fine with accent colors, just don't like (for myself) red, blue, green, etc bikes.

truckstop 03-16-13 07:35 AM

Lucky. We got a couple inches of snow and icey roads.

Mr. TS seems pretty down about it. I keep trying to talk him into meeting up with the vintage moto group that's doing a frozen snot ride today, with the destination at noon at a bar to watch the Daytona 200 over free chili and tater tots.

That might just depress him more though. We have friends in the race and he's been pining more than usual about doing that event.

Now don't take this wrong but didn't you just get the Colnago?

I stand convicted and guilty. Fortunately I don't have a Colnago. Nttawwt.

This is my third season on the Colnago. This is the longest I have ever had a bike as my main bike.

For the price I am willing to pay the Ghost Matte is my only option. That's pretty convenient since that is the color I would want anyway. :D

Clicky, clicky....

I know; no offense to you was intended. By being here, you're more serious than the people the reputation is really aimed at, I believed. I assume you ride more than once per week.

And Ti is just so pretty.

None taken. We surgeons get thick skinned.

Looking at the paint configurator, some of the panel paint jobs are pretty sweet.

surgeonstone 03-16-13 08:18 AM

Great day planned, Met Opera at noon then a ride at 3:30

I'm going to be setting around all day again today. This being a 24 hour care giver is serious business. :D

Thanks. She gets me for two more days, then I have to get back to work. Unless of course she needs me, then I will go ahead and use some more of my vacation time. :o
