Yeah USD60 was the cheapest I could see. But I would have to put in a bit of effort steaming the AS numbers of the old one and gluing them onto the new one.

Apologies. I'm not feeling well after performing a bounce test on my noggin this morning.

Very nice frame, as described. Communication could be a little better though.

See, I didn't even read the sellers rating. Those ratings aren't terrible.

I wonder why the rears got 25 miles on it?

Bringing back a load of bars and gels is a good idea. Mostly because the OS Distributors I have accounts with won't ship me foodstuffs. Bastards!

Don't you just hate it when an enforced diet gets in the way of a good carb binge? :D

Brian 12-01-04 09:29 PM

badsac's gonna lose sleep over those wheels.

badsac 12-01-04 09:43 PM

Man. Probably. I was bad enough trying to get a bike. Last thing you lot needs is to get me on a wheel buying spree and have to put up with my pathetic questions for another couple of months.

Yeah, like the one over on the Bicycle Mechanics forum where the guy is talking about epoxying in his seatpost?

Rowan 12-01-04 10:26 PM

Hey, where's hitchy? Maybe the bike doctor had bad news for him on the bike, and its been dragged off to the bicycle funeral parlour?

badsac 12-01-04 10:57 PM

They say bad luck comes in threes. Maybe the kids next door came over and rubbed their greasy paws over the looksee? Then when he got all that cleaned off, he got hit by a tram riding to work?

Rowan 12-01-04 11:10 PM

Expat's changed his avatar again. Quite like it, actually. Looks like the stoker's doing something stokerish with the captain's @rse, though. But then again, it might be my bloodshot eyes playing tricks.

That hurts my head. Anything that starts with "I found this broken bike in a a dumpster..."

climbo 12-01-04 11:32 PM

Anybody ridden the old Pacific Highway from Hornsby/Berowra up to Gosford? I know it's probably bloody hilly but how far would that be, about 60 kms? All hills no doubt. Suitable for an afternoon jaunt by a lone rider? Any shoulder to work with?

And which bike shops are the good ones on the coast? I can't find one so I go to Cheeky Monkey in the city at lunch time instead, they know what they are talking about.

Are you jealous that my wife can give me back rubs while we ride? :D

NOT a good place to go...

I've had a tandem sitting in my garage for so long now, I've started pirating parts off it for other bike projects. Been there idle about the same length of time I been... hmmm, let's change the subject before I do a hitchy and start sobbing.

Parts of it: North Sydney to Brooklyn and Gosford to Calga.

Yeah, about that. It's a nice 2 and a bit hour ride.

Hmmm. Yes and no. Non peak hour is quiet, which can be an invitation for drivers to put their foot down. Not good for nervous riders. I've ridden to Brooklyn in the afternoon without any problems.

But on the weekends things can turn diabolical. Loads of cyclists, twice as many (motor)bikers on high power racing machines, and the odd Sunday driver: very busy and horrible cocktail. Too much speed differential for my liking.

Go with what you know. I use Bikecology in East Gosford and they're OK. Can get those high end bits you're after so long as you know what you want. The shop is chockers with sold bikes, so things are on the improve there.

Your local is Roundabout Cycles, and they've just changed hands so things might improve. Or not.

You bloody bastard. I was asking you where a decent shop was up there when I went. YOu kept mum and I only got exposed to the *****. Bloody locals keeping the good spots to themselves.

As for the pacific highway and speed differentials, I wouldn't have liked riding on it while I was bombing up it in my car the other month. The only time my tires were doing anything remotely resembling gripping was when I was behind fukwit drivers. Bloody tourists from the home of aussie car racing being a danger.... :p

badsac 12-02-04 06:19 AM

I take it Hitchy's still dead?

I've been wanting to use this for some time now....

:fight:

You only asked about the Bike Shop, and I sed I have no idea. I do believe I posted instructions on using Yellowpages Map Finder to find other bike shops in the area. Bikecology was one of the thirty odd listed. But did you make the effort to investigate them all and post your findings back for all of us to share? Nooooooooo. Bloody country hicks invading the coastal areas. Sheesh :p

I might take the odd early finish at work and ride home from Berowra, early afternoon weekdays, so it should be OK. I'll give it a go anyway.

As for Roundabout, they are crap, I asked for a cheapy open clamp MTB brake lever, said he used to have one but doesn't right now, he only orders stuff in when he runs out of it (but he didn't have any so I guess he just stopped ordering them and didn't want to get me one, suggested Rod Martin to me instead).

All the shops on the coast are like that. Not enuf market I guess. That's why I usually recommend Turramurra or Northside for coasties. Exxy, but always willing to take your money off you with a smile.

rockmuncher 12-02-04 04:21 PM

On a sad note an American policeman touring Oz on his bike was killed (nee obliterated) by a road train in WA yesterday. According to the Daily Telegraph "police are unsure whether the cyclist had been clipped by the truck, swerved into its path, or had been disturbed by the draught as it passed."

No doubt they will be pulling out all stops to ensure that they reach an outcome that involves the least amount of paperwork.

What kind of lever do you need? I've got some floating around the shed.
