You talking about stilletoes or a fair dinkum bone-break? How?

Man, it feels like I've been wearing stilletoes. :D

Nah, I don't know if the bones actually broken. Just impossible to put weight on, and it's bruised all around it. Might go and see the doc tomorrow just in case.

See, yesterday morning, was doing some bushwalking/inpromptu rockclimbing when needed in a gorge with some mates near Glenbrook in the blue mountains. At one stage had to do a jump from one rock to another with the second rock about a meter away and a meter up (with a fall of about 20 meters if I missed). I've always been the brave one, but for some reason I piked out on this one. Guess I'm getting old. So anyway, after I took the soft way out of climbing over we had to keep going around the other side. It was either the way we came or over the other side, which looked like a jump only about 1.5 meters wide, but about 2 meters down. So being embarrased about being a big girl, I decided to do the jump over the other side. I was right about it being 1.5 meters across. But it was more like 3-4 meters down. I think I paniced and didn't land properly, my left foot slipped and took to much weight of landing on the heel. I thought it was broken for a start and I was going to have to get winched out by a chopper. But I soon worked out I could put weight on my toes so we got out.

After working out that a sore heel isn't the worst thing in the world, decided to go for a mountain bike ride that arvo. Got caught in big storm then steady rain for ages, and at one point lost the front and learly crashed. Guess what I instinctively put out to catch myself? Yup, that heel. Idiot.

Still, I've worked out 1.5 legs is at least good for something. Had the organisations golf championship today which I wanted to play in. So I hired an electric cart and went around in 5 under my handicap. So me was happy. :D

I haven't met badsac, so I don't know him and won't judge. Just happy he didn't break his stilletoes. That's a relief.

Rowan 12-06-04 03:37 AM

What do they say about silver linings? Of course if you had been a true cyclist, you would have ridden a *bike* around the golf course with a trailer on the back for the golf clubs and beer cooler!

Hope you heal up ok. Bad pun, but can't be helped. You're the second person within five minutes that I've had to say the same thing to. A friend riding in Far North Queensland came off on a gravel road and mashed up her knee pretty badly. I hope things don't come in threes in this case.

Of course, I could always use another pair. ;)

Ack. Why didn't I think of that? Must do better! :(

Thanks for that. I'm sure I'll be fine though. The phisiology books show that the heel's a fair sized bone, so it might just be bruising. Don't know what they'd do if it was broken though? If they have to put a cast on, I'll have to see if they can mould a dura-ace cleat into the bottom of the thing. :)

And I hope your friend fixes up okay. Knee's can be a pain. (Damn, that's bad). :(

Brian 12-06-04 04:06 AM

I've done that heel thing before, now that I think of it. Wasn't broken, as you're aware it's hard to break, which is probably why it hurt so much at the time. As I recall, I had a nice bruise that was semi elliptical in shape, and changed into a rainbow of colors after a few days. One of you was talking about similar colors on their ass. Don't know who, don't want to know. You'll heal fine.

badsac 12-06-04 04:23 AM

Yeah, that's a good description of what I'm looking at (how'd you do yours?). But it's not like I do much more than either sit on my arse, or ride a bike these days anyway. So heel's are superfluous really. :)

Brian 12-06-04 04:45 AM

The missus and I were trying to remember how I did it, and we've come up blank. Probably something equally silly. Yeah, heels are superfluous. Of course, if you were taller, you wouldn't need to wear them at all... :D On that note, I'll leave you to go stir it up. I noticed you put your two cents in on Clevelandgirl and his pseudo Harley. Saying the Shadow looks like a sportster (the chick Harley, really) is like buying a pink Mazda convertible (MX6?) and bragging that it looks like Barbie's Corvette. I understand his real name is Wayne Kerr.

I know you guys will probably be able to return the favour in the next few days, but I just can't resist :D

It may be a long time between drinks again - as it were

Sh1t that was an awesome catch.....

Thylacine 12-06-04 03:08 PM

Wake up ed, you're a page behind. I posted that yesterday :p

Small World Story No.386 - I went for a ride yesterday and thought I'd do a quick 50 down to Black Rock and back. On the return leg, I caught these 4 blokes from O'mara cycles, and one of them turns to me and says "You're not Warwick by any chance?"

"As a matter of fact I am! How did you know?" I replied. Turns out he was this guy from an Aussie MTB forum website that I post on every once and a while. Freaky huh?

So I got in my second bunch ride ever yesterday. And I didn't crash. Hoorah for me! :D

Do ya reckon they all meet at the shop and stand around playing dress-ups, oiling up and looking in the mirror before they leave for their ride, then someone says: "ooh, aah, let's pretend we're a pro team, and we'll ride in a really tight bunch at 21kmh for 4 hours."

Brian 12-06-04 08:11 PM

Let me just say that I am so glad that haven't ridden with anyone other than my wife and Rockmuncher, and I only shop online so's I can avoid the LBS.

Hitchy 12-06-04 08:17 PM

.......you forgot about the mandatory sunglasses check!....anything that costs less than $200 means you'll be relegated to 'domestique' duties,......fetching the latte's & the like!......& if they aren't properly colour coded they make you ride at the back of the bunch so no-one can see you!

...now that would be farkin hilarious, the look on the bike shop boys faces if you joined 'their' bunch...a seppo & his missus on a tandem mountainbike, pulling turns with the bikeshop boys......i reckon I'd almost pay to see that!....lol...

....hmmm, i'm with you.....I work on the theory that the more the 'shades' have cost me, the more likely I am to lose them, sit on 'em, melt 'em, dog eats 'em...etc etc...$200 sunnies last me 3 days, $20 ones about 2 years!....go figure!

Exactly -- they're too easy to wreck. I once had my sunnies blow off and bounce down the road
in a strong cross wind!!

Just had a look at Cecil's site. Those glasses are so cheap it doesn't look like he even advertises having them.
