Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SILCA

Anyone know where to get Silca brass pump head replacements and parts for them? Locally or mail order?

If you get stuck you could try bikecology (EastGos). They stock Silca pumps and can order in parts. Andrew's away for another 2 weeks but big Jim should be able to help you out. He works Sunday, Monday and Friday. Other days they have some newb ATM.

I just bought one a few weeks ago, so I've got the manual (with all the correct terminology) if you want to borrow it.

Well, I go through 3-4 pairs of gloves a year, and let me tell you, they're all sh1t.

I actually do some product and graphic design for Tioga, so I know wich of their products are good and which aren't - namely, all those designed by me!

Heck, I don't even know if Bikecorp brings in the Tioga road tires, so I shouldn't pimp too hard. Hitchyand Co. seem pretty sold on the Conti mached pair, whatever they're called.

I paid $45 bucks for some Adidas gloves from Pro Motion that fell to bits in three weeks!!

I like my Tioga Super Light tubes. They're light, but not too light, narrow enough to make tyre mounting easy, and have good pump grip on the valve stem

Bought some Pearl Izumi shorts today. $180 from the LBS. Geez they feel comfy on, but for that rort of a price my arse better feel like it was massaged by the breasts of 40 nubile virgins after a long ride now.

Tioga designed their Comp III BMX tire over 20 years ago, and it's still the number 1 BMX tire today. They've done at least one thing right.

Yeah, but I still find it easier to tar their entire product line with the same brush than fork out dollars in order for them to redeem themselves. That's just how it is in my sad little world.

you bought Pista or the Super? Nice aren't they !! I have an older one still going great. Just went to Clarence St. at lunch, they had one in stock so I'm good to go until something else breaks in another 10 years. They also had some nice Gary Fisher Cake's in there to drool over.

Also (saccy), shorts, if you can get them to Aust somehow, www.voler.com are awesome value and just as good as anything else I've tried.

I suppose if you consider the imortance of comfort, and how many miles you get out of them compared to other things such as tyres, people could argue that they're worth it -- BUT 180 BUCKS!!! JEEZUZ!! It's just a bit of lycra and a chamois.
If you think of the cost of the materials.......

Pista. Very smooth.

Gary Fisher Cake's? They're not road bikes!

While we're still on the subject of crap gloves: I couldn't stand the Tioga's anymore, so I bought a pair of DuraAce glove from the LBS. I had my doubts because they're so light, but they're hanging in there quite nicely. Sure, the palm material has stretched a bit unde rthe constant strain of training but they aren't falling apart and they're still as comfy as when I bought them. Just the bees knees for racing I reckon. Cheap too

Hmmm....one of my 10 local bike shops has some Shimano gloves. I assume they're similar, so I might grab a pair

I have these gloves too. I've had them for about 4 months, and no problems at all. The padding does squash down a lot from new, but they're still really comfy.

I suggest a pair of Dainese's with carbon fibre knuckles, think of the aero benefit and the ability to backhand motorists at traffic lights!

Yeah. It gives you the irrates when I could buy them for AUD$83 from the PI site, get them shipped to a mate in the US, then here for fark all. We get ripped something chronic. But when time is of the essence. Still....

The padding is the most bizarre thing about them: it's only 2mm thick (or should that be thin) but it's more comfortable than 90% of other gloves on the market

If you guys could only think ahead and let me know what you're wanting 60 days from now, I'd be getting you great prices. Oh well.
