Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyhow, the ride down was great with a reasonably healthy pace of 35-40kph. The ride back was nuts with the pack travelling through Chelsea at 53pkh. I gave up outside the Mentone Pub as they climb this hill at 40 kph...These boys/girls were going nuts!

Legs are feeling a little tight today.
I don't get up at 7am on a Saturday for ANYTHING.

Dunno how you do it

Bikes: Trek 5200 and 8000

I don't get up at 7am on a Saturday for ANYTHING.
Sequence of events went something like this...I was sleeping, I passed wind, I got kicked out of bed, I went riding.

It seems to have happened well after the fame I think right about the time he started directing, he must of picked up some kind of god complex from it.

7:30 pshh it gets light at 5:00am here and dark at 9:30pm June gives an extra half hour on each end. oh wait its backwords there in January here it gets light about 8:00am and dark at about 4:15pm so yea 7:30 is to early what the heck is wrong with you.

Bikes: Thylacines...only Thylacines.

I'm in Kensington, Hitchy. Kororoit Creek Rd is where they shot some scenes for the original MM. I vaguely remember what it was like in the 70's - even sh1ttier than it is now which is saying something, coz it's an industrial wasteland still. I think the only reason I ride that road is because it seems to always have a nice tailwind.

Mel Gibson became a Knob when he discovered Jesus. Or maybe he was always a Knob, we just didn't know it? Who knows.

I agree too - I'm over Winter as well. I've been for one ride in the past 7 days and have been struggling with a cold. It sucks bigtime. My beautiful orange bike is sitting there in the hallway, taunting me. "Can't we just go for a little ride? "

"NO YOU HUSSY! I FEEL LIKE POO!"

Bah.

God ... surely the Seppos can have a dig at us without bringing up the trainwreck of

I would like to retaliate by mentioning some American cultural lowpoints that I think can't

Monster Truck racing
Girls Gone Wild videos ( although I am not sure I am as unappreciative of this one as I should be )

Drive thru Weddings
Green ketchup

I'm from Canberra! Call myself a "roadie" even though I ride my MTB to work and back. Just a social rider, not a racer though I do like a bit of competiveness. Do a few rides with the local Pedal Power group.

Oh you poor thing, it only got down to -9deg C here this morning! Sun was out so it wasn't too bad a ride to work, better than Monday with that freezing southerly wind.

G'day 531,

haven't done a tuesday nite down beach road. Is it as manic as the hell ride?. I was doing the Hell ride pretty regularly earlier this year....until the coppers started riding off the front of the pack on their motorbikes & pressing all the Pedestrian lights...so they would go red by the time we got there!. That "expose" on channel 7 brought to much police attention, so I've stayed away. Might do it next weekend to see how its all going,

cheers,

Hitchy

I've never been able to get up early enough for the "Hell Ride", so I can't really compare, although a few guys have said it's similar, but a little less crazy.

They ride south aong New Street at about 6:45pm, then turn around at Parkdale at about 7:15.
They usually FLYYY on the way back, but it's usually not too fast.

There was a huge stack about a month ago, involving about 10 guys (and girls), apparently caused by the chicks

Bit of a new topic but seems the best place to ask it ...

I'm a recent road biking convert, and got into it since being away from Oz. I'm returning home next year after what will be 6 years away and I haven't decided which of Melbourne, Sydney or BrisVegas I will move to, it will mostly be pending employment but was just wondering if anyone had any opinions as to which city is the best to live/ride in for a roadie?

Any ideas?
