Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: how long have you got?

Oi,

just back from Lygon st...1st stage o' the tour. Dave macca, Karl menzies & Dean Downing from Eng. got away right from the start. no-one much intersted in chasing. As macca & menzies are on the same team.......they worked the pom over, (as you would!)....Menzies got 20 metres with 3 to go .....macca sat on the pom (obviously!)...menzies caught the back of the bunch & got a free ride home for the last 2 laps.....Downing's a track sprinter & got 2nd over macca despite macca sitting on him for the last 4 laps......

cheers,

Hitchy

From a bike shop that's a Bell dealer. Where do you live?

Man, the Road Racing board is Troll City! Fun fun fun in the sun.

Congrats on the Warnie ride, Hitcho. I've been a bit absent as of late with a string of weddings and a bushwalking trip out to the Grampians. ( Note to self : Next time, bring bike. )

yeah....had 53-11 on board the cosmics......in this situation.....into the wind, which was the problem, there was no way I coulda pushed it.. I was 'maxing' HR as well...so a shift to 53-11 wasn't gunna help that!....i was also concious of the 'appropriate' time to get 'dropped' by the pro's. I didn't wanna self destruct trying to stay with them, when I still had 240km to ride. I knew that I was within 5 km of the 1st climb, where I was gunna get dropped anyway...because all the 'D' graders were just 'hanging' anyway, it was abit like 'Big brother'....."it's time to go.....Hitchy".....cos if i was that 53-11 dude I woulda dropped all these pro's by then anyway!

cheers,

Hitchy

G'day dave,

was good...big Karl is a powerful rider...somehow I can't see him winning the Baw Baw stage!......i was a little surprised that Macca let him win it, given that they are on the same team & macca is the team leader....I guess he's got bigger fish to fry later in the tour. They got away virtually from the start, the Pom was always in trouble being away with 2 team mates!...they worked it perfectly......Macca 'went' with about 4 to go, making the pom chase while karl sat on...karl counter attacked then, the pom opted to settle for trying to sprint for 2nd......was a good day

Thx Hitchy. I'm over the nasty stuff but feel like crap still. Really bad news cause the family (and me) fly out to Noosa tomorrow for 2 weeks. Have decided that I am NOT going to be sick for this.

Done!! I've got a new digital camera and know where an internet cafe is in Noosa. I need to be a little sneaky as the 'Ball and Chain' won't appreciate it.
