G'day Hitchy. Hhhhmmm, not knowing whether badsac knows this guy (you know what country towns are like...brothers marrying sisters etc) I can't be too descriptive. I think it's fair to say that badsac's last post (9.14pm) is a fair descrtiption of what my mate would say. So, the answer is yes, he is Clancy of the Overflow...the question is Overflowing with what? :D

So it's between Orange and Bathurst. Orbea Liege C ( Centaur - Alu/Carbon) or TCR Euro (Centaur - Carbon). Both at about $3.75k. Liege C is 8.8 kg. I'd imagine the TCR would be about 8. Will a bit over half a kg make a huge difference? Will I be able to live with the Giants crap looks?

I ended up getting a heavier steel frame Pinarello with Campag over a lighter Alu frame Trek with 105 and have not looked back at all.
My bike is unreal to ride and I saved some $'s in the process.

Ah wise words indeed. I couldn't agree more. I mean, I don't know if the Giant would look as bad in real life as it does in the pics. But flames are only ever going to be tacky aren't they? "He who has the most carbon wins" or not, I just can't live with tacky. :o

Well I play cricket against a Paul, Tony, (and another brother I can't remember his name though) Clancy. There's a few kicking about. They're all in their 30's. Don't know if they're related. Do you remember any first names?

certainly havent read 77pgs of thread to know what the current discussion is, but i know you're looking for aussies. 1/3 oz, way of perth. now in chicago.
my vote is for VB, and some of that passionfruit punch. and i vote strawberry allens for the best carbs around.

I've said this before, and I know it's heresy, but i liked Carlton Cold before
they dropped the booze content from 4.9% to 4.2% (or whatever) to avoid some new alcohol tax. :(

I nearly brought it for ya!......keep an eye out on ebay, theres quite a few in there at the moment. You do know that the S710 is exactly the same as the S720, but has a plastic cover, rather than the metal of the 720?.....no other differences at all. I brought the 720 cos I'm a klutz & figured the 720 with steel might be a bit more 'robust', (but I busted it anyway :()....but they replaced it under warranty even though it was my fault:)

Ah Chicago...Coldest place I ever visited. I saw a bloke riding his road bike in the middle of February once. Never seen anyone where a full face mask with an air filter to warm the air before it's inhaled prior to this, or since. There was not one inch of flesh exposed to the elements. Anyhow, welcome.

.....geez, expensive tastes up there in 'Bathirsty'.......actually, apart from West end & Southwalk, I've never met a beer I didn't like....just some are better than others!....all time fave?.....Carlsburg Elephant beer...its about 7%. I once got 'spiflicated' at the carlsburg factory tour in Denmark.A factory tour was about $5 AUD which included 2 free beers....as this stuff costs about that much a pot over there....the only sensible thing to do was take 1/2 a dozen factory tours.......

Hey Aus. So he's of the opinion to spend all the dough on good components and put it on a crap frame? Aluminium is alright if it doesn't knock me around on these **** roads out here. Did he make any suggestions as to actual bikes?

Thanks for that. It's always seemed to me that it's easier to get a reasonably good frame with okay componenets and upgrade the componenets as needed? But I guess if you can get good components all in one go for a start, then it's just one more step to throw them on a good frame. I'd say I'd wear components out before going for another frame though.

I reckon you're right, that if the roads are really crap, the frame probably is the issue.

I should say that I've never really ridden carbon more than a few kms, and of the four aluminum
frames I've owned, I'd only ride one of them on rough roads (1999 Specialized Allez Comp) -- the others
are what I call "BROBs": "Beach Road only bikes".

Aww, that's not filling me with confidence about your lbs guy's initial opinion. I was just getting to like the idea of Dura-Ace (although it would be way to good for me).

Okay, I asked this in one of the seppos threads but I'll ask it here as well, since seppos are silly.

Removable roof rack + bike carrier (roof rack would be off mostly). Besides smashing your bike on low objects, what's the downside to your bike and car to using this system? What do you guys use?
