Anyone else experience "over-recovery"?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone else experience "over-recovery"?

If I recover correctly (usually 1 day/2 nights, but could be more depending on fatigue level) I'm good. But if I take that extra day off I feel out of sorts and in bad form when I get back on the bike. It's a strange feeling - physically I feel fresh, but my form feels off and I have no leg speed. This "over-recovery" syndrome is very consistent for me.

Anyone else experience this?

Yep. Generally most people recover in 24 hours with some occasional instances up to 48. Unless you're bordering on something resembling serious fatigue, you start to lose that training edge with anything longer.

Sorta kinda related...but how do you know if you've overtrained and NEED that extra day of rest?

Yes. I know the feeling but all seems to get back to normal and the progression continues the following day.

Sometimes I ride my best after being lazy and not riding for over 3 days. I don't know if I feel guilty and go harder, but I usually feel pretty fresh with lots of energy.

Two days seems to be the optimal amount of rest if I am fairly fatigued. During normal training one day is generally sufficient.

2 days off is normal for me. I generally need a long warm up to get going though.

I think the warmup is key. Also, daily stretching helps even when you are not riding.

Coach Boyd told me he rides best after two hard days. Maybe that's why he's pro material.

Yes, I've experienced 'over recovery', but unfortunately I experience 'over training' a bit more. It's that addiction thing.....

I always need a long warm up. I make sure I ride to the start of every group ride. The long way if need be. I'm dead the first 10-12 miles.

When you get older all the base miles you've accumulated over the years stick with you. I ride maybe once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. I feel awesome. Lots of energy, lots of speed. But I am a cycling wonder. Don't half wheel me bro.

I lose my spin a bit if I take more than two days off. It's not something I will notice unless it's a pretty strenuous ride, or the workout includes high-rpm work.

As long as you don't look at that single digit speed on your computer, you're ok

If I really shell myself out for a week of intense riding it takes 3-5 days for me to recover, but that's cause I did 3 hard rides in 4 to 5 days.

The key I find to get going after a few days off is a light ride with some sprints thrown in.
