Should be another rough commute home today. Expected temps are hovering around 100. Supposed to cool off this weekend though. The way in was glorious.

Looking at record temps today and tomorrow. Have fun on the commute.

I'm ok on the 12 miles home until it gets around 110. Last year I rode when it was 115. That was not fun.

Common courtesy. I know that's completely foreign to you, and the rest of your Monster Jam wannabe pals. It's alright. You can all stand around the open hood of one of your monster trucks, scratching your balls, and staring in wonderment at how the serpentine belt just goes round and round.

LAJ, if it is any help, a guy I rode with broke his collar bone the first week of May, had to have surgery to do the repair, and was riding again with the group in the first week of June. I don't know if you have any medical feedback on timeline yet, but that is one data point.

Good luck and heal fast.

Not on the bike yet RT, and it's not quite healed. It was killing me this AM. May take another couple of weeks, hoping it's sooner. In the end I suspect I'll have to have that RF (radio frequency) venous ablation procedure. Not that big of a deal as surgeries go (outpatient, local anesthesia), and in my case I think it would be highly effective since my circulation issue is relatively localized and they FOUND it on the ultrasound (that apparently is key, finding something to fix, they usually can't, in my case there it was). But I'm hoping this wound heals and another one doesn't appear in 120 days. We'll see. Best case scenario is I don't need the surgery, but it's good to know they can go in there and fix the vascular plumbing if it leaks again. I think it's like 50-50. Although my doctor dismissed it out of hand, the direct cause and apparent effect of vascular issues three times in two years after taking drugs with an amphetamine component certainly raises a significant possibility (in my mind) that if I avoid such meds the blood will stay inside my circulatory system like it's supposed to, and not form dangerous clots when it's NOT supposed to.

But you can't prove a negative, so it's watch and wait. Hope to be riding soon. Hey look, I'm 55 heading to 60, I want to do it on the back of my bicycle, and I want to ride until I'm 100+. In fact by the time I'm 100+ there will be a USA Cycling racing category for that.

Even Tommy John had to take a season off. I absolutely identify with age and wanting to ride bikes into the grave.

Thank you, RollCNY. Swelling has gone down a ton, and I sure don't like what I see. Appt next week, but may call and have them take a peek before then. I'm pretty sure I'll be on first name basis with the trainer.

RollCNY 06-28-13 07:39 AM

I broke mine in 1987, and medicine at the time was a brace and an overlapping heal, which gave me 20 years of problems (a small part of why I stopped cycling in 1993). Physical therapy 18 months ago totally addressed the bulk of my issues, and I kick myself for not having done it sooner. Get on a first name basis with the trainer. It is worth it.

So that worked.

Oh, and riding the SS with the Burlee trailer yesterday - the 15+ mph winds made it feel like I had a friggin' parachute attached.

Its always in your face, isn't it?

I'm riding the square taper 8 speed today. Needed a chrome crank and all I had was ST. Don't mind it that much, spins as well as the MegaExo or Hollowtech.

Too freaking hot today... the heat index is already at 100f. I'm hitting the beach this afternoon. Maybe I'll try this "swimming" crap that Hummer and others keep talking about.

Since "bridge month" is almost over, can July be "beach month"? Or "beach attire"? :thumb:

Hey, is that Pcad on the far right, doing the sexy "off the shoulder" thing?

That could spell trouble.

I was thinking along the lines of an America's Birthday theme, all things red, white and blue, apple pie, fireworks, July 4th celebrations, etc.

That scene is one of my all-time favorites. Never fails to make me laugh.

It's from the episode where George went without sex and got smarter. But Elaine went without sex and got dumber. LOL
