Although my doctor dismissed it out of hand, the direct cause and apparent effect of vascular issues three times in two years after taking drugs with an amphetamine component certainly raises a significant possibility (in my mind) that if I avoid such meds the blood will stay inside my circulatory system like it's supposed to, and not form dangerous clots when it's NOT supposed to.

But you can't prove a negative, so it's watch and wait. Hope to be riding soon. Hey look, I'm 55 heading to 60, I want to do it on the back of my bicycle, and I want to ride until I'm 100+. In fact by the time I'm 100+ there will be a USA Cycling racing category for that.
