Does it have the same... ummm... effect on keeping you relaxed and un-depressed as you've said, in the past, that cycling does?

And yes, your excitement is palpable.

No, I need the cycling. Soon. Very soon. Shooting to resume the week of July 10, ankle permitting, and I think it shall.

Thanks. I think ultimately it will be good for JD and the existing band, our vocals will be super strong. We got hired tonight on the basis of JD and myself, Jeannie, our lead singer and by far our strongest vocalist, wasn't even there. So that gives you an idea of the potential. In bar band follies, it's all about the vocals, and nobody in the lower Hudson Valley will have better vocals than we will have. I don't think that's an overstatement, and it's less of a reflection of how good we are than how WEAK the local bar band vocals tend to be. It's a low bar.

Definitely a huge compliment.

You are probably one who isn't too fat for this sport.

So that worked.

It's complicated in the 41, moreso in Addiction.

I blame myself.

This forum was always utterly skullfarked.

Now with hash tags and other notificational imbecilia, it's incredibly annoying as well.

Truth. And great use of 'imbecelia'.

Are you back on the bike yet, or did discipline kick in and allow you to heal?

Considering the fat content of this thread on a monthly basis, it was a compliment.

Not on the bike yet RT, and it's not quite healed. It was killing me this AM. May take another couple of weeks, hoping it's sooner. In the end I suspect I'll have to have that RF (radio frequency) venous ablation procedure. Not that big of a deal as surgeries go (outpatient, local anesthesia), and in my case I think it would be highly effective since my circulation issue is relatively localized and they FOUND it on the ultrasound (that apparently is key, finding something to fix, they usually can't, in my case there it was). But I'm hoping this wound heals and another one doesn't appear in 120 days. We'll see. Best case scenario is I don't need the surgery, but it's good to know they can go in there and fix the vascular plumbing if it leaks again. I think it's like 50-50. Although my doctor dismissed it out of hand, the direct cause and apparent effect of vascular issues three times in two years after taking drugs with an amphetamine component certainly raises a significant possibility (in my mind) that if I avoid such meds the blood will stay inside my circulatory system like it's supposed to, and not form dangerous clots when it's NOT supposed to.

But you can't prove a negative, so it's watch and wait. Hope to be riding soon. Hey look, I'm 55 heading to 60, I want to do it on the back of my bicycle, and I want to ride until I'm 100+. In fact by the time I'm 100+ there will be a USA Cycling racing category for that.

In the meantime it's the music and Addiction that have helped keep me sane.

As sane as Uncle Pcad can ever possibly be of course.

I will have to learn how to play bass, we'll be splitting the bass playing chores between the three of us. My guess is that on a night where we play 30 songs, 20 may need bass, and that means I'll be playing bass on 6-8 of them. Now singing and playing bass at the same time is notoriously difficult, so we'll have to see what that's like. Can't hurt to learn bass, I don't think it will be so hard for a lead guitarist like me who is so familiar with single note scales already.

patentcad 06-28-13 05:44 AM

My Strings Attached playing partners are in the photo below:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...psca379d16.jpg

JD on the far left seated, Jeannie is the woman vocalist who is standing. It's AARP Rock. But we really get along and love playing together and we have a good sound, those two (with a woman percussionist, not pictured) have been gigging 2-3 x monthly for the past 6-7 months, that's starting to pick up, I would think that now we'll get even more gigs.

Hey, not for nothing, but I can't think of a cooler way to ease into old age than in a little gigging band : ). The interesting thing is we're all people who dabbled in music for decades, and now we all kind of simultaneously started playing out @ open mics and writing songs @ age 55+. So we're all on a similar page. And we're all really enjoying it. It has brought this whole new world of great friends into my life. Just like cycling, only much cooler and not quite as stupid.

You can't compete with cycling for Stupid. It's just not possible.

I hope it all goes well, pcad. Enjoy the music.

Being off the bike sucks.

RUOkie 06-28-13 06:01 AM

Should be another rough commute home today. Expected temps are hovering around 100. Supposed to cool off this weekend though. The way in was glorious.
