Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm surprised he still enjoys cycling.

I hope he shows up for 6-gaps later this fall. I'd love to ride a few miles with him up neel's gap.

Oh, hate is a very strong word/emotion. I definitely don't hate him, or anyone else for that matter (well, maybe my two ex-wives, but that is a different matter), but I do dislike what he stood/stands for. And to the poster who mentioned about LA continuing to enjoy his life, well, I do not intend to even insinuate that kinda feeling, but decent people have a right not to associate with sociopaths.

Ask yourself what would you do if Charles Manson is released tomorrow, then decides to join your cycling club. Of course, I am purposefully exaggerating to make a point!

Dr. Mudd got a bad rap.

So Marion Jones can't go jogging with friends.. Manny Ramierez, Mark Mcguire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco can't go play a celebrity softball game..

if it's not a race/competition.. who cares?

not to mention there are plenty in the peleton that got caught and suspended/banned that haven't taken hardly any heat at all. You think Lance could have won as much without George driving the train? Pantani did EPO, cocaine and who knows what else and people LOVE the guy.

That is not the issue here. RAGBRAI is open to all people, not just LA's friends. I could care less what any of these people you mentioned do with their friends, but I'll be darned if I am going to introduce them to my kids, were I to meet them at any public forum. And I do not love Pantani, so do not speak for me!

So, no 5k fun runs for Marion Jones. Those are opened to the all people.

So, if Lance wins the RAGBRAI, does it stay on his record or not?

exactly. it is open to everyone. Dopers, drug addicts, thieves, alcoholics.... you can choose who you want to interact with but you cannot exclude certain people if they aren't doing something illegal at the time.

I get the fact that LA doped and so did many riders at that time. What I disdain is the way he "took people out" if they disagreed, doped better, told the truth or were just a "choad" as he called them. His PR machine, Pi's and lawyers ruined peoples lives for doing the same thing he did, while at the same time elevating himself with a holier than tho facade. The man is evil.

As for RAGBRAI, I dont care if he rides or not, he's entitled too by the rules. Bad people participate in public functions all the time just go to a Chargers-Raider game .

It's not that he doped; it's how he treated everyone else during the coverup.

Yes, maybe you have a point. I was hoping the dopers, thieves, sociopaths et al can muster an ounce of decency and exclude themselves from polite company. Maybe that is too much to hope.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think this thread is gonna end well. So, I am done.

This is quickly heading down the path to Pro Cycling. If you all can, you need to get off the doping talk and return to the pies and the naked waterslides.
