Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

really nice c&V bikes. how comes you can keep it looking so new? surely parts are hard to get new. i have an early 1990's bike but there are dings, paint chips, off components that i had to get when parts wore out. i looks a bit higgledy piggledy.

Some of them had been sitting in the corner of someone's garage for the last thirty years. a few have been
repainted and have repop decals. It turns out that if you have enough of them, after the initial restoration
and or reconstruction/overhaul, none of them get ridden more than a couple of thousand miles in a year, because
you want to ride different ones to keep everything fresh and exciting.

Those are some of the nicer ones, but there are about 50 in the garage that are riders, and another dozen in
the project stage........so while I can appreciate the work that goes into building up a new frame, I hardly find
it all that awe inspiring if you buy it all on the innerweebz and then put it together.

There is a similar hubris amongst the local fixed gear kids, who take a perfectly good older road bike and spend
a thousand bucks ****ing it up with deep v rims and chop and flop bars.

In my experience, people are generally very weird about bicycles. (says the guy with a two car garage full of them )

My one adventure with titanium:

...it's swell, but so is a lot of other stuff you ride.
Again, people are very weird about their bikes.

Getting ready to ride. First nice weather saturday club ride in several months. Sunny, start temp around freezing and end temps will be 40ish.

The good news is the weather is much better than it has been recently.

The not-so-good news is that I am not nearly as fit as I should be for March, due to crappy weather. So there may be some suffering today.

I have a Cannondale R2000 I can't bring myself to toss. It will likely never turn into a lamp.

I have a cold or something, so my ride plans have evaporated. And my car is rusting badly, and should be replaced, but I really don't want to deal with car shopping process.

Also, the rain bike is together, less cabling, tape, and steerer cutting, and I lack the interest to finish. I am more thinking of selling it uncut, ditch the Cinelli, and be happy with the SS.
