Ride Report
Inflated the tires and took my first ride of the season, complete with iPhone selfies. Partly sunny day, hi in the 60s finally. Yeah, I'm one of those fair weather cyclists.
Quickly discovered that the gym bicycles I've been doing are a poor substitute for real cycling. My quads right above the knees were crying like wimps, but that's the price you pay for inactivity.
Yes, I'm 50-plus in case you already didn't know.
Matter of fact you can feel it in a lot of areas early in the season - arms, shoulder, neck, legs. My lungs were relatively good thanks to the gym bikes, however.
19.3 mph only because I had to slow down about half way to take the picture.
Thirteen miles today, a decent first day. Now that the ice is broken it should be easier getting out.

Shower? I should take a shower?
For the first day 13 mi is pretty good, well within striking range of my normal 20 mi rides.
I might break out of that rut and do some 25-milers this season.
Thank goodness!

A female jockey guided the winning horse to the Oaks. The Oaks is the race that locals would go to so all the glitterati can go to the Derby without having to mix with the hoi polloi.
But now the glitterati clog that one up, too. My wife had the chance to score 2 tickets for $400, but we'd need three, and that's just a lot of money to get the privilege of losing even more money to the ponies.

Rode Mt. Figueroa this morning. Perhaps the toughest climb I've done. 1:36 with a short water stop from the support van. 05/02/14 - Santa Barbara, CA
The rocky section was like a minimum maintenance road back home. We had four pretty strong riders who can also keep it together in a paceline which helped in the home stretch. Good fun.

Hang on... do we want a sudden surge in the 50+ membership around here? Isn't there some sort of initiation test we have to put these dudes through?
(You know what's sad? That I should be hunkering up to join the 60+ club in less than two years!!

Still, I should be grateful for making it this far in life. There are a few others born in the same year and a few school mates who haven't.
