Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd love a stiffer set of cranks, but have yet to find anything affordable to fit my needs. Picture is also well out of date, and the shorty fenders have gone the same way as the full fenders I ran originally. They're just too annoying to keep clean, and even that short front fender still caused noticeable drag. So away they went. A closer-to-now photo.

I liked it better with fenders. Could you have gotten wheels that were any more gimmicky? Those are really disturbing. Didn't notice the brake cables so much before, but now everything around the hubs looks tangled up.

Brake cables? Gimmicky wheels? All I can see in that pic is a bell mounted to the stack... I'm blinded to anything else.

Very interesting choice of wheels. What wheels are those anyway? Not my thing but to each his own. Apparently my wheel stickers are like puke so I feel your pain. Lol.

Being a (mostly) law-abiding rider in NYC (I suspect bells are required in some other places as well), that's one of my favorite things about that bike.

I like that you kept a color scheme with the gold. Also I don't think anyone has mentioned what looks like 308 rounds as valve stems. Interesting!

it's almost perfect. the handlebars could be rotated downwards a bit.

Not, because you can tell the seatpost, stem and bars were from another bike. They don't match the color scheme.

I liked the fenders too, but it was a case of function beating out form-- the bike took significantly longer to clean with the fenders than without, and there was a definite and measurable amount of drag from them, even cut down. As to the gimmick-factor of the wheels, I don't think they're any more gimmicky than super-aero CF wheels with 3" high logos, but I definitely understand where you're coming from.

They're Crank Brothers Iodine 3 all-mountain wheels. The stock rims got a nice waver in them within the first few weeks, requiring constant attention with the spoke wrench, and the replacement rear WTB Frequency hoop taco-ed itself and put me on the pavement, so when searching for wheelset #3 , I looked exclusively for strong + cheap(ish.) Absolutely zero concern given to weight. At 1,760g for the set, the Iodines are bulky for a road set, but really light for an all-mountain set without going to carbon. And I would honestly rather not go to carbon.

Here in California we're not required to have a bell, but as a frequent rider of paths and trails, it's a necessity. Joggers do not operate in a single-file. They move as wide as they possibly can.

The gold was wholly unintentional-- I had overtorqued the crank into the factory BB and put a nice click in it, so I shopped for a replacement. Black was $39, and gold was $14. Thus began the gold accents. The old stem covers were really close to .308s, but I wasn't pleased with how the recycled maple was holding an edge, so I made a replacement set out of european beech, which holds both detail and paint a whole lot better. Forgive me for polluting the thread with non-bike pics, but I'm pretty fond of my new set, modeled off of .300 Lapua Mag:

nice bike! From this angle, it looks as if you really have that saddle pushed pretty far back with an already set back set post. Also a longish stem. Are you long of torso?

Agree with the poster who said to rotate the bars down.

Blue tape is trying to steal the show and overpowers the gorgeous frame and nice chainrings and seat. Black would be more classy.

I love it otherwise.

i'm of average proportions for an almost 5-10 male, other than shortish arms. i'm very flexible through my hips and can generate power while still being quite flat backed and aero. stem is actually shorter than i'm accustomed to riding at 11cm. it fits me.

I'll be brave and post it as I ride it. 16 pounds of lights, water bottles and chain gunk. This is my race bike.. I race with it. It has been posted before but I did some changes to it.

* Specialized S-Works Power Saddle
* Specialized S Works Shallow bend carbon bars
* Specialized HD Bar Tape
* (on the way) Garmin Virb XE camera

May get some Mavic Cosmic Ultimate wheels in the near future.

Pretty good. Very cool setup. Hard to fault. The bar tape and the steerer knob isn't my type of thing, but it's still very cool.
