Aluminium Crusader :-)
He doesn't say a word about how the crash happened, he says he's going to Madrid to have his leg treated, and regrets having to quit at a moment when he was feeling good. But that's cycling, in a second you can lose months of training and effort. He hopes to be able to be at the Vuelta, but he's not sure.

Correct. I'm going to start dishing out infractions for anyone providing facts . . . . it's just unacceptable BF behavior.

Yeah, I've checked the forum records and standards guidelines. This thread has officially crossed over into Epic status. A tip of the hat to all!

The Asplosion Heard Around the World??**TdF Spoiler**
Hands down it was a driver of a team car fiddling with his joy stick, then a Thule Al roof rack failure started the whole mess.

Hey bud, you missed reading some of the replies, my point was in response to the guy who claimed that cars were going opposite directions at maybe 30mph and the collision happened consequently at 60mph. I still have to see a car having forgot something and going opposite direction to pick something back up from the hotel, .... :-) ; just ridiculous, just like those initial explanations uttered by Specialized PR team. Not a good PR image for a professional bike being built for TdF and costing $20,000 USD guys, sorry, .... :-) Thanks,

Maybe the people who drive into their garages, forgetting they have a bike on the roof, should make a claim for a defective product.

...is the earth really just a hollow ferrous shell, the interior of which is populated by a dark race of dwarves manufacturing carbon composite products ?
Tell the truth, other than in the faked videos on Youtube, how many of you have actually seen a carbon fiber frame being made in person? Anybody ? Bueller ?

well, I did not expect such a drastic failure of the frame in two spots, broken at two spots where supposed to be strongest joint than the rest of the frame, we are talking about a $20,000 USD frame built to perform at TdF, what should I expect from a mass produced regular consumer grade, casual rider grade made in china thing?, a tacoed tire, a bent fork, broken fork, broken bottle cages, etc OK, just not that drastic of a failure, sorry guys, just Not a good PR image for the manufacturer or the technology.

Frames don't cost $20,000. I doubt his frame is much different than their regular production frames, except possibly custom geometry.
Any material frame attached to a rack, then getting forcibly yanked off, could expect to be damaged in some way.
The "Not a good PR image" is due to people making up stories about what happened. Not the company's fault.

Any frame of any material can be damaged if enough force is applied.

Looks like the bikes hooked bars as the Tinkoff car passed by the Belkin car. The frame broke because the bike was peeled off sideways from the rack. The Bianchi is probably not in great shape either.

This is a myth. Vehicles colliding from opposite directions at similar speeds do not contain the energy of a single vehicle at twice the speed. Even though it is obvious in physics, there exists a pretty bad MythBusters episode on it, if that helps.

I have to agree, for this to be plausible, for this to be the scenario, one car has to be stopped or stationary relative to the other, there wont be that hard a collision if both were going relatively the same speed same direction,
