Why are snobs against seatbags, frame bags, and/or handlebar bags?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

city bikes aren't road bikes, they're meant to pick up some bagels, cheese and maybe a nice bottle of wine. road bikes are made uglier with the use of bags. it's like having a hot car with those weird visor things on the side windows. now touring bikes, need bags. they look strange without them. and my rain bike needs the fenders, otherwise, it wouldn't be a rain bike.

So it isn't a fashion thing, it is understanding that "form follows function". I like that. Okay, we can shut this thread down now.

It's election day here in the US. I've asked each candidate for their position on seat bags. None have responded. Too controversial.

I used to use a quite large cannondale seat wedge bag on my bike when we lived in the city.

LARGE SEAT BAG, AS IT WAS THE ONLY CORRECT WAY TO LIVE AND RIDE A BICYCLE.

Then we moved, and I couldn't find my seat bag, so I started just putting stuff in my jersey pockets.

NO SEAT BAG, STUFF IN POCKETS, AS IT WAS THE ONLY CORRECT WAY TO LIVE AND RIDE A BICYCLE.

Then I realized I was sick of trying to dig through the laundry pile and find my tube, levers, tool kit, patch kit, and gels and whatever other nonsense, so I got a sort of small-ish bag.

A SEAT BAG BIG ENOUGH FOR PRECISELY THOSE THINGS THAT I DON'T WANT TO SEARCH MY STINKY LAUNDRY PILE OF JERSEYS FOR, AS IT IS THE ONLY CORRECT WAY TO LIVE AND RIDE A BICYCLE, AND ALL OTHER WAYS ARE HERETICAL, AND ENSURE THAT I WILL NOT WAVE AT YOU AS YOU PASS ME WHILE I'M MUTTERING AND CURSING TO MYSELF.

That should settle this all nicely.

Now that we've determined that using a saddle bag is the proper way to go, which ones are the best?

Please post photos.

It seems strange but I've been using my "frame bag" as a handlebar bag on my road bike for the past week or so. It's just a drawstring bag with straps for the head tube and seat tube, which is just as easy to strap to my drop bars, laying on top of my "heck for stout" phone mount that reaches forward almost to the hoods. It works so well that I'm thinking of modding another bag just for the handlebars. Just commuting and errands though, I wouldn't do it for a regular road ride.

I'm thinking of introducing a ballot initiative banning seat bag use on road bikes.

I'm too scared to post a photo of my bike. Someone may mock my aero bars or say that my wheels weigh too much or arent aero enough.

What if we just determine that the seat bag is what converts a road bike into a touring bike? As soon as you have a seat bag you have given up all rights to call your bike a "road" bike. It is now a "touring" bike. You are then no longer allowed to post in the "Road Bike" forum. Moderators will move all posts by saddle bag users to the appropriate forum.

The stock photo from the manufacturer of the saddle bag would be fine.

Aero bars on a road bike???

Never fails with an Arundel Dual (for 2 tubes) or Uno (for 1 tube)... no pics, but they are both fantastic and semi-minimalist.
