Okay, so now I see that alcohol will not be necessary. We will have Dr. Brown's Black Cherry and Celery sodas at Kenny and Ziggy's much publicized Houston deli. Perfect.

It's nice to have a legacy, even if it's wallpapered with bike weenie idiots.

...so I'm over at the bike co-op just now, and the landlord of our building has the space next door (which is the residential portion of the same building) fixed up as one of those Air B+B type places, but you're on your own for breakfast. It's huge, so he gets a lot of party/group rentals for weddings and stuff. AS I'm leaving, three people come out and explain to me that they have a piece of bread which is the "stranger's portion", and old Greek New Year tradition, and they give it to the first person they meet outside the door, me.
It seemed pretty appropriate. No one is stranger than I am.

Gathering my gear for this morning's ride: Leg warmers, arm warmers, tights, wool base layer, long sleeve jersey, wind jacket, full fingered gloves.
Today I think is supposed to be our last morning of freeze warnings.
I'm not complaining though, it could be zero and I could be stuck on my trainer. I'll feel pretty ok going up hill. Down will be not so much fun today.

This morning as I checked online weather forecast and the prevailing wind of the Addition thread, I realised there was a gale blowing against riders going out for a ride and not returning with a pic of an animal seen on the ride. So here is my turtle sunbathing on a rock:
And this was my destination...the hill in the background. Just a short sharp climb but a good start of year ride to get the blood flow going.

Wow, those stairs look very steep. You must have a compact. Oh, now I'm feeling obligated to take some wildlife pics, too. I'll see if I can get an alligator or something.

Nice turtle @coasting.
I have added a wind vest over my jacket and my neck warmer thing. We'll see if they both stay on once I start. Today I'm driving to the start of my ride. The river trails are always the coldest places in town, I'm skipping those today.

By the way, when you ride along the mup and every bike seems to be a Giant, is it ok to feel a bit superior with your unique self built bike that is different from everyone elses?

Sure as long as it looks better, rides better, is faster, lasts longer, and was cheaper than the Giant, then knock yourself out. Otherwise it is just sour grapes. The prejudice against what everyone else is riding because of commonness, when that bike is among the best that can be had, is an unfortunate and unattractive emotional response IMO. It is very common and is likely genetically hard-wired in the human psyche. Fight the urge man, fight the urge. It leads nowhere good. Neither needing to be the same as everyone else nor needing to be different is a positive approach. Choosing a bike because it is objectively the best no matter what label is on it is where the value lies.
