The actual racing isn't any harder on the bike. As long as you don't crash, it doesn't reall matter. And do I really have to point out that you don't have to race to crash?

You can't force someone into a group riding situation, and volunteer lead duties onto them. If you are not in a group with them, then you are still responsible for maintaining a safe distance away...
