Oh man, such a pretty old bike, same color as my P10-9, but so much rust. I don't know what the premium would be for a collector's item. It doesn't seem like two grand on its merits as a bicycle. But if you just want a really good tandem, you can find a very nice one of more recent vintage for a lot less. I think I'll be in the market for one in about two years, but in the meantime here's what I can find here:

Tandem bicycle Cream upright French mixte with Brooks's and an integrated bottle dyno / light, $600. Looks like it could use some derailleurs.

Cannondale RT3000 tandem Size M/S Ultegra 6500 & XTR, Hot-mustard yellow $1250

And between those there's a few Burleys and Santanas including the Santana with the add-on Softride and the 4-speed front that we've been ogling in the "wacky" thread

Miyata 1000 Vancouver - $400 OBO for Miyata 1000. ( looks like an early 80's) Has front & rear rack & appears to be in good condition. Seller just states 'all original'. It's 54cm which is basically my size but I just... don't really like that colour blue/aesthetic. And need to maybe sell a bike if I want to pick up another anyway...

Tandems are hard to buy or sell, and old tandems even more so. There is a VERY limited market for vintage tandems, even pretty ones like this. They often sell for surprisingly short money. As an example, I have watched similar paramount tandems not sell at swaps and ebay for $1,000. On craigslist? Good luck.

It's not that uncommon to find complete Santana and Bilenky builds for $1,000 and less.

There is (was?) an Eisenraut frame of that vintage at the local co-op a month or two back. It was 66cm, so too tall for even me. Nice frame, with funky early '70s hippie graphics.

OK, apparently it's raining Miyata 1000's in Vancouver right now. All posted in the last 24 hours.
Miyata 1000 - $500 for what looks like '89 or '91? Might be 58cm?
Miyata 1000 Touring - $375 for what looks like '81 (they've swapped to bar end shifters)
Miyata 1000 - $400 obo for another '81 but in blue. '54cm' Looks pretty prestine

I contaced the seller, and because of the photos being taken outside, asked him if this bike is kept outside. There is a bit of a language barrier, but he said it is kept outside. The photos don't show any rust (that I can tell) but now I'm not sure if I want the bike, or not.
Perhaps I shoud just go check it out - it's about 45 minutes from me.
