Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I never smoked pot when younger. This is anew behavior of that there are low dose drink options. It’s all hemp derived and federally legal so you can get it shipped to your door.

A place by rjones28 makes a decent seltzer but is running into some regulatory hurdles selling in NY.

I've smoked pot for about half my life. Much more ubiquitously in younger years. It's fairly infrequent now, however. It's something I share with family and friends on mine and Liz's, and she respects that. Liz doesn't like it so much and I have to be much more of a "people person" inside and outside of work so it has gone way down.

Much of the harm is social IMO. Firstly, it's not socially accepted (especially outside of the Best Coast), and it does make you kind of weird/silly. Many people find it off-putting when someone is kind of giggling and "on one" in their own head, and quite frankly, it is lol. So it's really not a great party or social substance in most circumstances. At home or with a small group of friends? Essentially harmless IMO.

Same here, but Mrs. GJ and I were 29 and 30 y.o. at that point, and living 3000 miles away from everyone else, so we just made my parents and her Dad and step-Mom pay for their own airfare and hotels.

Light break in the rain so I'm making a fast move to walk to work. Rain jacket, work shoes, umbrella in the backpack. Gore-Tex, waterproof, Vibram soled hiking boots on my feet. There are some greenbelt/unpaved sections to the mile long walk.

The walk home could be interesting.... but I don't mind getting home a bit soaked. Hopefully I can make it there and stay dry.

Spirit consumption has gone way down since baby came around. Even before then, I usually just prefer a glass of red most of the time. My favorite wines are made from Syrah (Crozes, Cote Rotie) and Sangiovese (Brunello, Chianti).

Woodford double oaked is a good one. Next you might try Eagle Rare, also at 90 proof, or step up to a Makers Mark Private Select, usually at 100+ proof. On the Scotch side I want to finish off some Balvenie Caribbean Cask before starting anything else.

Rained pretty hard most of the night but is very light right now. I want to ride a bit but I may have missed the window. Time to decide.

How does one self fund a cash bar?

OK so that was more like a light rain... turned around right away and contemplated driving, but instead grabbed my Columbia OutDry mountaineering jacket. I am happy with my choice. My wife got me these fancy British moleskin pants for christmas that are quite robust with respect to weather and wear/tear - those came in handy too. I think I'll continue walking unless it's raining like real hard.

I actually don’t leave for work now until Sunday, so I technically don’t have to cram.

Did the 3x15 zone 4 today. Holy crap was that hard. Opted for the colonial parkway, fairly flat, low traffic but might as well be gravel or cobble stones. The ride is extremely rough.

First set my varia camera flew off with 90 seconds left. I stopped, paused the interval and spent 2 mins trying to find it. Once it was found I resumed the rest of the interval. I was pretty angry it was interrupted.
5 mins of rest then set number 2
I really went all in on this set. Tried to keep it on the upper side of zone 4 as much as possible. I also thought it was only 2 sets not three so, I gave this set my everything. Imagine my dismay when I realized I had another one.

5 min rest last set. Was at the bottom of end of zone 4 for most of this set. Had a real hard time locking the power in. What I mean by that is being able to maintain say 240 watts steadily without stairing at my screen. It seems like everytime I looked back down the power would drop off and then I would over compensate to get it back where it needed to be.

Really happy with myself getting this done. Prolly one of the hardest things i’ve done yet on the bike. 30/30s suck but this is just never ending.

Tomorrow i’m going to take it really easy I think. I don’t know if zone 1 is appropriate but that is what I am considering unless LAJ or TMONk thinks it needs to be closer to zone 2.

Just do it by feel. Maybe put a z2 cap on the watts, but be OK with zone 1 and dont stress it. These rides are good for dirt or mixed surface rides - get on the checkpoint and go explore. Or soon the supercaliber!

Most of my friends smoked growing up. I never got into it, knowing what I wanted to do with my life.

If people want to smoke in there home that’s cool. I can’t stand the smell of it while driving or riding my bike. It’s literally everywhere. I don’t think my family should have to smell it everywhere we go.

I suspect that is true, but in many states (including mine) recreational cannabis is illegal while alcohol flows freely.

I don't use either of them.

oh yes, the law is certainly another very real harmful aspect. Which kind of related to the social acceptance thing.

I'll agree with this - smoking in public is uncouth. Unless you're at like a festival or something and insulated from communities.

NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH

I had a plan to ride this morning. Wife and sd/grand have a play date, away. I took the first dose of a two drug combo designed to curb my incessant belching. It pretty much dissembled my digestive tract. It emptied, first, at the porcelain throne, and then from the other end while lying on the bathroom floor unable to move. Ultimately the aroma drove me to crawl into the shower and, to my dismay, see the bulk of the floor area puddled brown. Everything in that puddle got washed. Should I was it again (we only have cold water)? I will spare you the rest, but there is more. I write this missive from my wife’s throne, three Pepto bismol tablets tablets in me. Hoping they are able to do their work reasonably quickly.

Smoking tobacco is allowed in public. Weed should be no different. I have friends, one in particular, for whom a joint is the equivalent of my morning coffee. I require the speed and he needs to take the edge off.
