Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Took a short day ride yesterday on my day off and spotted one of Velo Vol’s kin. Got a distant photo with the camera. Bull elk sighting this morning.

Lake Koocanusa at Rexford, MT. Counted 8 osprey flying overhead.

Kudzu is different, but another very bad man. We had both, back when we had lands. Gave the tenant farmers a hell of a time.

No. Likely worse:

Persicaria perfoliata (synonymPolygonum perfoliatum[1]) is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family. Common names include mile-a-minute, devil's tail, giant climbing tearthumb,[2][3] and Asiatic tearthumb.[4] It is a trailing herbaceous annual vine with barbed stems and triangular leaves. It is native to most of temperate and tropical eastern Asia, occurring from eastern Russia and Japan in the north, and the range extending to the Philippines and India in the south.[5][6]P. perfoliata is an aggressive, highly invasive weed.[3]

If you're not opposed to chemically killing the plant, get some Roundup and paint the leaves using a small brush or swab. It should be gone in a week.

I went bike riding. It was hot so I broke out my Halo for the first time this year.

It was a good ride, but no pretty pics taken.

RideWithGps has ceased talking to Strava. I remain a member in spirit if not in recorded rides.

It ain't the heat, it's the ozone, NOx, and PM 2.5. I have to figure out a nice morning route without too many homicidal suburbanites on it.

Got in a solo century (of the imperial type, not metric) today. Stopped at a gas station at about the half-way point and picked up breakfast/lunch - purely healthy stuff, obv.

I didn't find the nut paste M&Ms to be all that distinctive in flavor. Then again, I didn't eat them 'til after I was done riding, and I was inhaling more than eating.

For the bridge folks, here's a few from the ride -

They took apart this lift bridge last year - looks like they're getting close -

This opened last year and crossed the river, connecting MN and WI. It's pretty cool.

Crossing the Stone Arch Bridge - this used to be a train bridge that serviced the mills in Mpls along the river. The shell of a building to the right of center is the Mill City Museum. It was a mill until it blew up. Flour dust is good for that sort of thing. Anyway, the bridge is a ped/cycle bridge, now.
