Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: '97 HooKooEKoo + '75-'85 Fuji Regis fixie conversion.

Wouldn't it be sweet if there was a movie about a renegade bike cop that rode a fixie and he had an uzi in each hand and he did a no handed skid right down the center of the street while on each side were a bunch of bad dudes?

he's all skiddin' along bastin' away coming right towards the camera and he's got a cig burning away in his mouth and there's huge explosions goin' off behind him. and he's bare foot too.

Then he does a 360, trackstands, drops the uzi's to the ground, a flock of doves take to the air behind him (what was just the direction he was traveling) he takes one foot off the pedal and pulls a knife out of his boot and throws it into the crime boss' main tough guy's knee. Or sometihing.

There has to be a homoerotic bike joust showdown at the end.

The matrix Reloaded would have been tons cooler if they all were riding bikes.

hahah. When i had my roommates tv when she was gone, it was usually Pacific Blue, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Baywatch. This was only on the commercial channel that plays crappy syndicated shows since a lot of the other channels are government owned. Usually it was just Discovery Channel and Pacific Blue while I ate lunch. But don't think America gets all the show flow over here. There is a large portion of horrible Australian shows (Water Rats and McLeod's Daughters) that gets broadcasted on the commercial channel as well. There is just the allure of cheap syndication which keeps them coming back for more.

and my friend and i wanted to film something in copenhagen. hmmm....you want a line that says: "concept by deathintransit"? just getting the uzi's might pose a problem. although throwing knives would be kickass too. but the cop would have to be undercover to keep his street cred on a fixie.

now that i think about it, how funny would it be if there were undercover bike cops on fixie's? well, not that funny since they'd issue tickets and all but i would get a short laugh first.

The bike cops around Chicago are pretty funny, too. I always wondered how they're trained. If someone is running on foot, are they going to try to make a jump from the pedals to tackle them? Are they supposed to take aim at a criminal while hammering after him? Given how badly they ride (and how woefully out of shape most of them around here are) I would be terrified if one ever drew a gun while in the saddle. When you can barely hold your line because you're riding so slowly (in a huge gear for no reason), why would anyone in the right mind trust you with a firearm?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

They start with their training videos.... PACIFIC BLUE. The power slide up the criminal, taking the perp's feet out with the back wheel.

Down here in Houston the Tazers are a big fuss. I am just wondering if the Bike Cops got them.... Ride, take aim, insert pothole...ingredients for a funny video clip.

There is a hierarchy closely associated with dollar figures. The car you strap your bike on the back of is also closely scrutinized. Everybody knows those two criteria are directly proportional and possibly even a determinant factor in Chamois size.
