I love this bike. The front mud flap is killer. What tires?

How are you liking them?

Absolutely love them. They're incredibly plush and roll over everything like it's smooth tarmac. Having ridden these, the next big bike build I do will probably be around a 650b wheel size so I can get some 650b*47c fatties. Far more chances of finding a frame of reasonable proportions that'll fit that tire size at that wheel size.

That said, I'd most definitely recommend these to anyone with a 29er looking to get some slick tires for some road running. Y'got the clearance for 'em, so why not?

This is my commuter bike, I use it nearly every day unless there's salt on the roads or I plan on go drinking.
The bar and stem combo is from an old Downhill bike which I've switched since to an integrated stem setup, so I threw these parts on it and I like it a lot more than the standard drop bars.

I swapped the seatpost and hoods to make it more comfortable for long rides. I gained some saddle setback and got rid of the old school Shimano brake levers. Gonna have to get some nice tires for it sooner or later.

Ridden hard, and immediately washed upon return. Chain is A-OK, just a little surface rust. Cleaned, dried, and re-lubed. Rides like this are also why I run WI freewheels exclusively. It was still spinning and clicking like new the entire time.

Finally got a new seatpost in the right size (stupid old tube sizes). So with the new bars, brakes, & saddle I'm getting closer and closer to how I want it.
Thinking of ditching the deep wheels and going with a good regular set.

I'm also thinking of getting a shorter height stem - I feel like it looks funny currently. Thoughts?

TejanoTrackie 08-01-16 12:33 PM

If your bar height is comfortable the way it is, then why do you care how it looks ?

seau grateau 08-01-16 12:38 PM

Yeah, base your fitting decisions on how the bike feels when you're riding it, not when you're taking pictures of it. Ditching the deep section wheels would be a good move IMO.

If the bike fits, leave it alone.

If you want it lower, just cut it with a hack saw and clean it up with a file. It's easy.

Lugged Raliegh + deep rims = clash.
