I used to live in Mattituck. There is a small equestrian facility named Strawberry Fields, on Sound Ave just before it opens up into North Ave. Rented an apartment over the barn.

Loved to Kayak off New Suffolk and miss crabbing off the bridges on Peconic Bay Blvd. The north fork was always laid back. I hope they haven't ruined it yet. Sometimes toy with the idea of going back. If I do then that's where I'll live.

Bar and stem aside, if you knew the North Fork of Long Island you would know how perfect that bike is. Farm stands, Bed & Breakfasts, wineries, horses, fishing, sailing, etc. When he says he carries eggs he probably literally means eggs laid this morning purchased from the farm stand up the street.

The egg thing is great. The bar and stem are JA.

TimothyH 07-16-16 05:24 PM

I'm sure all the people at the horse farms and wineries mock his stem as he rides past on his way to the Cider Mill for an apple pie still warm from the oven. ;)

Mumonkan 07-16-16 05:42 PM

yeah but does it barspin tho?

The bike suits the 6 mile radius that it was put it together for; trips to the hardware store, bar, brewery and with 90F/90% humidity the box relieves the need for a sweaty backpack to bring food/suds home. I am devastated that the bars & stem have been deemed "JA" but being as they were salvaged new for a pittance and that they allow me to steer the front wheel efficiently and effectively, the function is fulfilled. Without the box it ride smooth as ice cream but it is practical to put things in and didn't cost anything.

The eggs/produce/meat come from the farm that I live & work on and it beats carrying the stuff home or to someone's bbq.

Ny college Grand Prix now reborn as a svelte 22# singlespeed (don't laugh, that was a 6-7# improvement)...really enjoying the ride.

Non Drive side pics. Like the black one though

Arrowana 07-19-16 11:04 PM

Love that Grand Prix, very classy.

My bike that is definitely not a Basso is coming along nicely, just needs a different saddle, and I'll probably ditch the decals.

I dig this. It deserves an aluminum seatpost.

obuckler 07-20-16 07:56 AM

It does have a spare aluminum post (from a Super Course that got a kalloy seatpost) replacing the real long steel post it had, but of course it does still have the old clamps ---YES that would be a better upgrade and improve the clean lines!

That's exactly what this is for. Well, that and giving me something to do when I don't want to/don't have the time to put on the kit and break out the geared bike.

Thanks! Even though I said I was done, I've already replaced the saddle (it now has a white Bontrager Inform RL saddle) and ordered a new front sprocket (a 46t IRO found on eBay to replace the 48t Sugino, largely 'cuz I want a wee bit easier gearing for around town). Once I get a shorter stem, I'll take more pics and put them on my Pedalroom.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it looks like Gene Davidson and Strawberry Fields are moving on. Tomorrow is a myth. If this is where you want to be, you need to make it happen.

I meant living on on the North Fork in general, not at Strawberry Fields specifically.

Thanks for the link. Interesting and nostalgic for me.
