Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

So, I decided to use my old pursuit bars instead of my road bars with TT extensions, but now I have to figure out how to mount a brake lever. Any ideas ?

Road style aero levers won't just slide on the lowers?
Looks like the plug style TT levers, if they fit the open end on the lowers, would be at a weird angle, but perhaps not.

Do Campy Pista cranks come in 135 mm BDC or does Chain Reaction have them incorrectly listed?

No, I didn’t even know about it. I agree that this is way cool, so thanks a lot ! Interesting that what they call “medium gear” is 72 gear inches maximum, which is right in my wheelhouse of what I typically ride on the road.

PS: What make, model & approximate year of production is your frame-set?
A CF frame w/ track-ends and F&R brake fittings? Hmmmm.....

The times are 24:23 for 10 miles and 53:41 for 25 on 72 GI!
That is seriously having at it.

The more I look at those handlebars the better they get.

Loosen the bar clamp bolts on the stem and the brake lever clamps. Rotate the bar 90 degrees or so and try a Reversed Chop and Flop.

Here's the entire thread, enjoy.

Bikes: State 4130 Matte Black 6, Artic White Wabi Classic

So I'm new to the single speed world, but have dipped my feet in by the way of a State 4130 Core Line. I am asking if it is worth upgrading this frame (so far I've just done contact points and a 17t halo clickster) But im looking at a new wheel set soon and then a new crank set. Should I just save up to buy a better complete or is this frame ok to upgrade? Thanks

If you like the way it rides and looks, that's all that matters.

How long have you been riding bikes in general?I say just ride it and try to avoid the upgrade-itis so soon, ride the crap out of the bike.

I've been riding for the past 5 years consistently for the last 3. I'm coming from halfway serious mountain biking and have learned a whole lot about geometry, good components and everything that goes along with that. I commute every day and was using my mtb, but wanted something more efficient. I'm loving the State and have fun, but I know it could be much smoother and lighter with the right bits. I will try not to upgrade too much right away, but the upgrade bug is strong. Thanks.

A good pair of wheel and tires will make a difference. Changing the crank won't do much for the ride unless you think it's ugly. The State looks like a decent commuter bike, have fun!

A good wheelset will be the next thing I buy. I guess I just mean the chainring. But those Andel cranks that already come with a ring look pretty tempting. The current chainring could be much rounder.

Sounds like I can't go wrong with a set of H+ Son with decent hubs so I'll be on the lookout for those.

Does anyone know of a carbon hoop that could be built up with whatever hubs one would want to use? It seems like most carbon wheelsets are prefabs? Anyone have any insight on this one? Built up my first pair last summer (paul+archetype) and kind of feel like a nice set of carbon wheels would be great to have but would like to build them myself if possible. Thanks in advance.

First road ride on fixie

Wow, what a learning experience almost died twice. The transition in mindset from geared bike ti fixie was slow and nearly knee explosion. Any tips hills were hard enjoyed it but took alot out of me 9 miles with hills
