Actually it was more for me to find my way down there so I could watch races when the season rolls around again.

Yeah, make it out and you can learn the route most of the way. After you do it once you'll be able to do it by yourself, there are only two or three places that are a bit confusing, but after that it's easy.

If you want to watch the races though, a more time-effective way to get down there would be to take caltrain to Diridon or tamien and ride from there. I'm always happy to have new people on the ride though, makes for good conversation.

Anyone gonna roll down with us tomorrow? Most likely, Tuesday will be the short ride to Palo Alto, Thursday will be the long ride to San Jose.

quick question - i'm thinking about going to hellyer on sunday to check out the race my friend's doing in the afternoon. i don't have a car, so i'm taking caltrain there and bike from the station. i think caltrain's last station on weekends is san jose downtown, and i was wondering how long it would take from sj station to hellyer if anyone has done it. i'm trying to plan my trip and unsure which train i should catch in order to not miss the race.

Bikes: 74 paramount track, 80s maruishi track, 70s chesini track.

i haven't ridden from that station to hellyer before, but i'd guess 30-45 minutes, depending. how many miles from the station is it exactly?

Is that the station at Cahill Street? If so, it looks like it is about 7.5(bike) miles to Hellyer
South Montgomery-West San Carlos-South Market-South 1st-East Alma-Senter-Hellyer

Someone with more biking knowledge of the area might have a better route...

I'm sorry but profanity is essential in getting my message across.

my little knowledge of that side of san jose would have gotten me that route too, all those streets sound familiar enough! even sounds shorter than i thought.

Thanks for the info!
I just did google mapping, and i think i got it right:
65 Cahill St (San Jose Station) to 995 Hellyer Ave (apprx address...i'm just BS'ing) is 8.3 miles.

hmm i was thinking about riding caltrain but junioroverlord's comment is starting to make me change my mind - weather permitted, i might do the full ride from SF to hellyer just because...i can.
(plus i haven't done any long ride since the last SF-SJ ride)

The Google maps that give you the longer route include the freeways..which would be faster for cars though longer..
I was doing it in Microsoft Streets and Trips so was able to use waypoints to keep you off the freeways...
