Keirin Fixation

I was going to post this in the track section, but don't want to limit posts to velodrome riders/afficionados. So....Everybody post your links/pics of Keirin related madness and everything Japanese bike related. Lot's of wierd/ cool stuff out there so don't be shy, and for heaven's sake don't try to act cool like you don't like it, you knOundefined[FONT=Garamond]w you do!!

Hey Dolface, F*$# everyone's opinion. What are the components on your bike?

well, it's currently not what what it was, due to stealanization, but i've got replacements coming, and it was/will be:

peleton 52cm frame
da hubs, 36h, fix/fix
saavedra featherweight rims
da cranks, 165 natch
da chainring
da cog
da seatpost
nitto jaguar alu stem
nitto 123aa (alu) 35cm bars
mosquito saddle
champ grips
mks custom nuevo pedals
toshi double straps
mks clips

everything except the rims are njs, and it's a rocket!

Do I relly need NJS/Campy race components? Is it overkill for the street? Maybe I can get a cool frame and go bumstyle on the rest until I start training at The Dick Lane Hartsfield Airport Optimist Velodrome of College Park. It's a cool, old school outdoor arena ( free admission)!!! But right now I just need the basics. Who else makes Keirin frames?

you don't need anything keirin or campy. there are plenty of companies that make EXCELLENT (phil wood for one) and reasonably priced (iro, formula) track stuff that will take most anything you can throw at it.

building an all-njs/campy/10-pitch bike (all of which i have either done or am doing) is a an obsessive, expensive, and ultimately silly exercise.

(but it's a HELL of a lot of fun, and there is nothing like going for that first ride on a newly-finished project, especially one that's taken a really long time to put together.
delayed gratification doesn't get enough respect).

*yawn* keirin bikes are boring.

Mine (a Kiyo Miyazawa) has two confgurations, street and track. Although my other bike (the DW) is much stiffer and lighter, I'm totally in love with the Kiyo for the street:

Okay, okay, I get it. some of you don't want another*yawn* Porn thread. Unless it's fresh and/or different. So how about gear? Like Keirin race apparel/jerseys. What kind of shoes do Japanese riders wear? Who makes cool accessories in Japan, i.e. racks, wheelsets, stems, seats, bags? And for the love of god, where can one get one of those funky helmets? My old helmet already makes me look like the ****** from Crank Yankers, so I don't mind the stares I'll get on the street. Most of you probably ride track bikes on the street anyway, so I say defy convention and [B]POST UP THE COOL/WIERD $H*T!!!!

As a wise man once said, " Now that'swhat I'm talkin' about!!!"
Witz, do you ride that daily? It's purdy! But the front wheel/tire looks high maintainance.

I understand that track tires/hubs and minimal spokes are more prone to failure in real world conditions. I am thinking about race wheels for the Raliegh Purp/Pink Punk Bike I'm building, but the cost of replacing tires and tubes isn't worth it. I'd rather wait for my true Keirin frame buildup , as I plan to run it at the 'drome.

My Levant. This is an older photo. I've since swapped out the aluminum stem for a lesser 65 degree drop steel Nitto. I also ditched the chromoly bars for some aluminum B123's.
