I have no problem with the fuji, it's a nice bike, and
good value for the money.
I bristle at the old tired saggy fatigued iron bullschit
so I called him on it, it ain't hatin.
I don't come in here bragging about my bike and
cr@pping on everyone elses whether it is Alu, Ti, CF or steel.
Road, track,it's all good.
BTW I won't have 404's on it. Fiamme red labels running conti competitions
or pistas, maybe sonderclasse if 53-11 responds, bet they have better
rolling resistance too.

I don't think we were hatin, just stating preferences. I said its different to ride on a track because they are well paved so ride quality is not as important whereas if your riding in the city, steel will absorb more shock and to me, it feels better.
BTW 53-11 what were you riding before?

not to mention that he set the tone for the bike bashing with his/her first two comments. Just ride your bikes and don't hate other people's cause it's pointless.

Besides I laugh at them when I see some ancient steel flex frame equipped with super stiff Deep Vs and straight guage spokes. Uhmmmmm.....that's just plain silly.

aluminum doesn't rust, and that's all it's got going for it. but im sure 53-11 wont be riding in the rain anyway

Haters.
I almost got really mad when I saw this thread. WAIT......I haven't bought mine yet....if they are all gone....grrrrrrrr.
Ok better now. Mine is in the back seat of my car and will hopefully be built up in the next few days.
Personally I think the bike is absolutely fugly, but for what it is, and what I paid for it, I think it'll work well. Plus it'll give me some time to figure out what exactly I want to do regarding track bikes. It's tough not to pick up for $650, where when you look at an alternative of a custom or new NJS you can easily reach $2500-$3500 depending on components.

i dunno, that bike looks ugly as sin, but i bet it'd be nice on a track. i'm not a fanatic for any one kind of frame, but there's a feel in aluminum that i sort of like. i also like steel, too, but for different things, i use a different bike. i'd probably enjoy something like that for the track, and definitely at that price.

If time permits a build I might actually get to race it on Saturday. If not, I'll wait for my new pedals to come in and be at the track either Thursday or Saturday the following week. Until then I'll keep riding my other bike.

I will add, at this time, that Fuji's are made in MAINLAND CHINA and cost $44 (inlcuding paint) to make and it is a disposable frame, because when those aluminum dropouts start getting gouged from the axle nuts (and they will) your frame will be useless unless you ride only one gear.
Anyhow, enjoy your bargain while you can, and dont be bashing Steel, or I will hook you to the rail on my Steel frame...

FYI, There are many worthy steel frames out there. They just weren't made in 1982.

spouts anything he reads on rec.bicycle.bs, is heavily into weightweenies.com
and started the totally lame Darthvader school of bike racing.
Noob? seems to me you've been riding less than 2 years? something about
being a champion weight lifter before? I started riding in the 70's so
don't be throwing any Newb BS around.
so 53 here's a little challenge for you.
Show us pictures of your rides, and not from manufactures websites, actual
honest to god this is a picture of my bike.
and I do have to apologize for my little track challange, it really
isn't polite, you name the track and time and I'll come play, you
don't have to come here.
1984 Pogliaghi pista frame, Fiamme Red rims, 14/15 ga spokes on campy pista
high flange hubs. It will eat your lunch anytime anyplace.

I know plenty of good riding steel bikes made before 82...and many more after.
And yes, I am biased...steel is real period
For the record, I might have given Fuji too much credit, in volume those frames could be as low as $25, afterall, we are talking about mainland China...

Under high force (sprinting/racing) conditions I'll take aluminum anyday over steel (unless the steel frame is a tank). The EFBE tests prove this as well (where steel fails before aluminum depite steel being heavier)
LOL@ Steel is real.
