Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? meatball has a bike with a 7 foot tall wheel and another tall bike where you pedal backward and the bike goes foreward.

I was talking about mutant bikes today. I took the subway to time's up for my weekly movie night, and didn't bring my fuji. A friend wanted to run a quick errand in the area so I grabbed Austin's little red freak bike instead of a beat up huffy laying around. I love waving the freak flag.

Gonna be rocking the sound bike on Sat. 2pm at Washington Square Park for a event if any of you want to check it out. Kick out the jams.

By the way, that thing looks ****ing fun.

damn, I dip out for like two months and I come back to people crying that an awesome bike is "unsafe" or "lame." wow sounds like what people say about fixed conversions without brakes. people in glass houses....

ps,
the bike needs either flame decals or a flame thrower, I'm not sure which.

I'm curious how many people here have actually ridden tall bikes and freak bikes. Tall bikes are fun to ride and fun to build. too bad this is a zombie thread

I've built two. Even though I only ride my current one once or twice a year, I have found flaws in the design (although my triangular 2-chainring - 1-cog internal 3-speed design works great) and want to build another, just for the challenge.

One of my buddies toured on his long-wheelbase tallbike (with cargo area below rider for lower center of gravity), seems to have enjoyed it.

he should build the other side of the bunk bed frame and put the bed back together! that way four people could ride it! two actual riders and one in each bunk! that would be sweet!

Okay, I find this ****ing funny, probably because that frame came off of a bunk bed, one similar to the one I had as a child.

Tall bikes are like resurrected threads.

Somebody with a screw loose did the deed. People then comment, some annoyed and some actually angered. Technical merits are discussed. And a few of us find, for inexplicable reasons, their existence makes the world a better place.
