Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I posted this in Classic but it's valid here too:

OK, I love this bike but don't have the room and don't have a use.

* Vintage Russian folding bike.
* Heavy-duty steel frame, I've loaded this up with easily over 320 pounds of gear and it was fine.
* SS with coaster and front brake (disconnected).
* New 48 spoke rear rim with coaster (upgraded after these pictures were taken).
* I put BMX handlebars on it because the bars on it were uncomfortable and wanted them to be wider but I still have the original.
* I also put on barends and tape on.
* The paint is in great condition!
* Fenders and rack
* I'm 6'1" and it fits me
* One extra rear 48 spoke rear wheel with a 16 tooth gear.
* Original tires (sidewalls are partly in Russian and says "Made in the USSR") plus a spare for more traction.
* Regreased bb less than 50 miles ago.

I always thought it would make a cool fixed gear conversion since it's already a SS - just convert the spare rim. With a little inguenuity someone could probably concoct a QR type device vs the bolt for the folding mechanism. I don't think I want to ship it because of the weight - but can meet in NYC, and maybe along NJ transit, MetroNorth, or LIRR lines if the travel time is split equally.

Want:
* 58cm steel touring frame and fork at least. (I'm 6'1" with a 33" inseam from floor to crotch) Preferably not French.

Oh ok. I know that bike. Thanks Areoplane. It might be a little too nice for this beat though:

I put a Surly sticker on it a long time ago, but don't fret... it is still a Shogun.

That's the second lugged frame I've seen with a Surly sticker on it. Don't know what brand the other started out as. Why would you do that?

The other bike belonged to a bike shop employee as well. I think I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Random frames and Surly stickers laying around...

Surly isn't stingy with stickers.

OK - one last time before I attempt to "trade" these for cash elsewhere:
Having:
-
56cm Surly Crosscheck frame/fork/etc, green, debaged, in pretty good shape (scuffs and scrapes in the powdercoat, no dents or anything more major).
- Surly track hubs, new and unused, silver / 120 / 32 hole / fixed/fixed .

Wanting:
- track frame, 57-58ish.
- cranks
- tell me whatcha got.
