I'm done with blowing through the soles of my old reliable slipons and recently, sambas. Who's got some good LOW PROFILE shoes for clips? no dunks because the lace thing gets caught on your **** or the adidas merckx's that you can't get anymore.

i need something more solid for longer rides, so i don't really care if they're ugly because i'll probably be wearing them with some ugly shorts or something.

anyone have these? how's the sole?

-- i don't want vans (slip ons, sk8-hi, era etc).. or anything with that soft gum sole (so chucks, etc)

Mountain SPD shoes actually work extremely well in clips and straps. The stiff sole, secure fit, and lack of laces to get caught in the chain make Clip/Strap riding feel almost as secure and comfortable as clipless. I sometimes wear my SPD shoes while riding clipless, but more often I would just swap the pedals

My point being: if you want the best shoes for cycling, wear cycling shoes regardless of what pedals you are using. There are enough different styles of cycling shoes out there that you should be able to find something you like.

Adidas Tuscany...comfy, easy to walk or run in, and fit well in clips.

any mountain clippless shoe also is nice...I have a pair of Shimanos that are also very comfortable, and I am able to kick the pedal around with ease with no little tab on it(cheap ass pedals) and they fit VERY snug into tight clips.

I agree that the adidas tuscanys are pretty nice for clips and straps, but I have to disagree with the walking and running comfortably thing. They are meant to be driving shoes, and therefore have minimum fore foot padding and arch support. I found them uncomfortable just to walk in for medium to long times, but I overpronate a little bit.

Well I do knwo what you mean, but if you tie them reallly tight, they IMPO are very comfortable, but again, thats why there are so many out there, we all liek what we like.

but walkign/running aside...very nice for biking.

are there any stores that carry those carlits? that'd be worth trying on, but $154 is steep to go on a whim

MLP, first of all, try and lace your shoes opposite as usual, kinda. Start with the first loop on the underside and lace away from there. Higher up you can revert back to normal lacing, but the bottom can be reversed to get rid of the problem.

I've had pretty good luck with Puma Speed Cat's, although I usually ride clipless, on my other bike I like those shoes over the other pairs I have. They're pretty low profile, and have really tough rubber on the bottom, albeit somewhat thin.

the prob isn't with the laces.. its how the lace hole part sticks out at the bottom...

I don't think you will find those carlits at any other store, but wallingford has a rep for being laid back on returns.

Adidas EM Comps

Where can you get those brown and light blue Adidas EM comps?

They make quite a few versions of this shoe now. These have always worked well for me. Stiff enough but comfortable like slippers. Some models have a velcro dealy what protects your laces. Be careful which shoe you select because the leather is diff't on some of the models and they wear quicker than others. (adidas titan)

Expect to pay bet. $60 and $80 for them in the stores.

I got a black/white pair from Sportie LA (google it).
If you google Adidas EM Comp, you get a lot of hits but unfortunately most, if not all, of the non-black/white ones are from European and Asian websites that don't translate on my internet.
