2006 Fuji Track. He wants it gone today, so I'd offer a couple hundred and see if he bites.

New to BF and soon to the fixie world (which I am very excited about) and am considering checking out the following bikes and would love your advice and opinions:

First up we have an older Bianchi that would need to be converted for $250: http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/587756858.html

Second we have an already converted Free Spirit for $300:
http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/591164401.html

Obviously the second bike will be instant gratification and already looks half decent, but the Bianchi seems like it might be a great project bike (I really need a new hobby). I'll be using whichever bike I get as my main mode of transportation when I don't have access to a car I share with my girlfriend to run errands and possibly commute around my very bike friendly city (Austin).

Are these bikes too expensive considering I can get something brand new (although not vintage or already customized somewhat) on bikesdirect for the same price? I'm considering the Mercier Kilo TT.

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated!

Extremely so. Keep looking.

Hard to say without many details in the ad. Odds are it's OK, but you can probably do a bit better if you're not in a hurry... If it's not too far away, go check it out.

mostly what kept me from bidding myself, but i was awful tempted even if it meant i flipped the cranks and headset to cover my losses if the frame was bunk.

I can't tell what model Raleigh it is, but from the looks of the dropouts, it's a cheap, entry-level frame. Definitely not worth $120. I sell stuff like that on Craigslist for $20-$40, normally.
