Who needs to flip-flop when you can jam two cogs onto the same hub? |

165mm Sugino Grand Mighty Crankset w/ 49T GiGas chainring
http://i6.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/7f/4c/907f_1.JPG retail on the pair is about $600. i'm curious as to what it will go for. the initial BIN was $300, but that was before the seller realized that's almost what the chainring is worth alone. |
that's peculiar. at the time of my original post, the bidding had ended and the thing was sold for $160 dollars (hence my post). now, though, it says, "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing." hmmm...
|
I think this is the real one.
|
$600 for a crankset? Why?
|
because it's made of compressed pixie dust and carbon fiber and then painted to look like aluminum, that's why.

I wish I would've taken a picture of the Bridgestone EAI had built up at Interbike this year. Now that was a real "If you have to ask why..." bike with its Dugast tubulars, Grand Mighty/Gigas crankset, $4,000+ frame, etc etc.

to respond to the question, it's a billion dollars for the crankset because it's a superspecial crankset. in particular, the GiGas chainring is...well...special somehow. apparently it's got a magic coating that has something like 10% the friction of other chainrings. it's not exactly an average piece of equipment. |
