you didn't set the tool right that.

that only happened to me once when I was in a hurry.
your bars have to sit in between the 2 bottom rollers or it will get away from you.

bianchi pista concept

So this is in no way a flamebait. I'm just wondering what the advantages are of risers besides the ascetics/coolness. I like how they look but can't really justify replacing my drops.

Astronomical 06-13-07 10:42 PM

I like the risers on my daddies Miyata, but that ain't fixed, and it rides like **** other than fitting me perfectly. Why wouldn't he let me fix it? ):

Feels hilarious to sprint on risers though, I feel like a little kid on a trike or something.

sniks 06-13-07 10:56 PM

sprinting on risers is like sprinting out of the gates on a BMX track.

easier to get you leg back after leg over the bar skids......... oh wait what is the advantage to doing skids with one leg over the bar?

nothing just fun .

dudezor 06-13-07 11:12 PM

Risers (or flat bars) can make your bike a lot more nimble. They're great for city riding and weaving through traffic. They seem to make skidding (flared out, sideways skids in particular) more comfortable and controllable. That's my take on it anyway.

JellyMeetsJam 06-13-07 11:26 PM

Sounds fun, and a good addition to my already snappy pista. I think I'll spring for some, any recommendations or are you guys all into dumpster risers?

TedC 06-26-07 11:30 AM

Ok so I put some risers on the rain bike...they ride real nice...but how the hell do you all climb with those? I like bullhorns, as Im used to drops with hoods, and it gives me a nice hand position while climbing...but risers....nothing.

I've chopped them smaller three times, and think I'm taking about an inch off each end again:)

I like my Titec Hell Bent risers. :) Before I had risers I had some Nitto RB021's on there. I like the risers better. I can't skid or do any cool fixie tricks though... :(

You might want to find some dumpster bars, or check for any cheap used bars at your LBS first. This can help you determine how much rise and sweep you'll need if you end up getting something nicer. No sense blowing $30 on something you may not like.

Astronomical 06-26-07 07:27 PM

My ripped off a mountain bike and chopped near suicide bar proportion risers are wonderfully fun, I just need a good stem for them.

kyle! 06-26-07 09:27 PM

i've joined the club.

I think I just saw that bike today around 2:30pm
in the downtown area.

was just visting seattle and thought it was weird how few fixed bikes I saw.

and how many people ride on the sidewalks.

met a guy, Adam, he said I was just in the wrong part of town.

Where were you exactly that you didn't see a zillion fixed gear bikes?

I work half a block from where schwinn's bareknuckle was photographed. I rode my road bike to work today. Ha!

sounds like Monorail Espresso

Yep. We like our bikes here. Seeing lots of cool old bikes still running makes me happy. Once I get my ****ing wheel rebuilt and fix my bar tape problem I will post proper pics of my new baby.

My disc braked beercan bike is one step closer to complete too. Another month of scrounging or so and it should be good to go.
