Nike Fixed Gear Ad

Please don't read AdBusters. Not unless you enjoy hollow sloganeering and photoshopping your way into the alternative buy-nothing shopping culture. What a joke.
I think it's fair enough when people get pissed off about this kind of thing. It's typical big-business marketing, but it doesn't mean it needs to be accepted. Nike are infamous for trend spotting and then cashing in. It happened in skateboarding and plenty of other sports. The small, independent companies put the passion and time into these fringe sports, building them up into an exciting thing, only to have the big guys come in, start throwing their weight around and often destroying a lot of what's come before.
That said, track racing isn't exactly a non-commercial fringe sport, and there's a little more to it than a line of shoes or clothing, so there's not much reason for getting up in arms about this. Apart from getting angry at Nike in general for being a disgusting company, but everyone should be doing that anyway, right?

Anybody recommend some good sneakers that fit well in strap and cages? Something tough, with a good sole? I'm getting tired of clipless shoes.

hell at least you could plausibly say they are kerin fans. no one follows kerin in the US (not saying i do myself), bet everyone has a NJS bike, because they like the aesthetic.

basketball was already big. baseball? psssh already an "american past time"
who cares. do you own a bike that works? do you like to ride it? do you have a decent group of friends that like to ride too?
that is all you need. if you need help on how to own your own culture i would suggest reading ad busters or culture jam(or is it culture jamming) by kayle lassen. otherwise......this sh*ts in japan and if you havent noticed a lot of stuff happens there that never reaches our shores.
bridgestone.....i mean anchor anyone? panasonic? try getting your hands on a complete from either company in the united states.....aint gonna happen(yet).

...although Bridgestone and Panasonic used to sell bikes in the US...I'm hoping to run across a Track 2000 or 4000 someday...wonder how many were ever sold?

I like it - if only they used someone within the communities pics as opposed to getting a freelancer with 'prop's.
I haven't stopped riding a bike as a result of any thread.

I took the shot you see in the beginning of the post. The thing that is kinda ****ty about the whole Nike brakeless thing is that it will 1. make riding more difficult for us here in Tokyo. 2. Make kids who think it is cool go and buy a fixie(I have no opposition to this infact i support it 150%) and start out riding brakeless and get themselves killed(this sucks).

(Oh, and by the way, Yamaguchi made frames for the U.S. national team too)
