Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: so many

I never gave it much thought until I rode my bike naked. It tends to slide all over the place.

Bikes: Too Many

^ can't agree more. But when riding without the aid of bike shorts, I usually lean to the left as well.

Wear them UNDER your regular clothes. I hate the look of lycra, but I got cycling underwear, and, worn under my cargo shorts, it gives me a much more comfortable ride, if I'm going further than about 6 miles.

Bikes: something fixed, something broken

Slevin: I'm gonna say the same thing any man with two dicks says when his tailor asks him if he dresses to the right or left.

Lindsey: What?

Aye, the Sugoi and Pearl Izumi liners are pretty much the best things ever.

Bikes: Custom Holland Ti road bike, Custom track bike I traded a painting for.

i was totally anti spandex but i could say my ass always hurt as well. now i wear bike shorts unerneath everything and im always a happy camper. Except last weekend after wearing them under my shorts from 2 pm-10pm it was so hot i made up a song called "Las Vegas in my crotch" it sounds like Peaches. I need to find some of those underwear shorts.

i do not have a schlong.

That is all well and good for 6 or 10 miles, but when you are talking 50, 75, 125mile rides..."bike shorts" are your friend. Not only for the comfort of them but aerodynamics. If you want to ride in the wind with your big floppy cargo shorts and a t-shirt acting like a sail, go nuts. I rather conserve my energy and ride fast.

Lycra works. if you think it's only for "roadie elitists" or whatever un-PC word you want to call it then you are wrong. The hipster kit of tight jeans or the skater look of loose cargos (which is me BTW) works if you are goofing around or riding short rides around 10-15miles...but nothing longer.

For working messengers the baggy look with lots of pockets with padded shorts under works well...but honestly, how many of you are working day to day messengers in here.

So, bike shorts are your friend.

lycra is no biggie. i do metric centuries all the time, fixed, with just wearing kakhi shorts and boxers. i've never had any discomfort.

if you get a comfortable, well fitting, and well adjusted saddle, lycra is just gravy on top.

There seems to be a strong trend towards left. I'm left as well. I wonder if there's some biological reason.
