that link I posted explains frame alignment. How come they are not aligned properly? I'm not really sure. I'm sure it has to do with a tolerance that the machines have, and as these are assembly line frames, no one does any high tolerance measuring of these things.

badevilcow 07-15-07 09:29 AM

yeah i saw that link now.. i was browsing on my psp in the middle of the city and it was not opening the link.. well never the less i am skipping frame alignment.. if i feel something is wack, i'll take it to jack
:D

always comes back to the machines, anyway i wonder how many other 'factory' re branded frames are 'out of alignment' now that i think about it

Build list:

Cheap no-name wheels from a Windsor TT
Truvativ BB
Bontrager cranks
Rocket chainring
Old Cannondale pedals with toeclips (temporary)
Forte seatpost
WTB Rocket V saddle
Kore 130mm stem (pricepoint)
Scott AT-2 bars
Deore lever
Tektro brake
Hutchinson Excel 28mm tires
Tange Aheadset
KMC Chain

Weight 21 lbs 4 oz as shown. I really like it so far, but I want to replace all the silver with black components (where I can) for the full stealth look. I dig the flat black.

here's mine:

Build list for my 62cm BFSSFG frame (exhaustive...):

bontrager select track wheels (see how long these last)
bontrager race lite GXP crankset/bottom-bracket
FSA road 42t ring
BBG 42t bash guard (from ebay, why? why not...)
dura-ace 15t cog (3/32")
dura-ace lockring
SRAM PC-951 chain
bontrager race lite hardcase tires (700x28)
bontrager century tubes
cane creek S2 headset
bontrager race lite fork
bontrager race stem (130mm/7deg/26.0mm)
bontrager race bullhorns
bontrager grippy tape (black/red stitched, pretty)
bontrager race lite brake levers
shimano 105 fr. caliper
bontrager carbon seat post
selle italia SLR 135g saddle (might need something more...)
crank bros eggbeaters SL (will swap out for smarties)
whatever brake cable and housing i had lying around...

Lot's of bontrager parts. Some orphaned from other projects, but this is the stuff I have easy access to in a pinch.

I took it out for the first ride today, 30 miles. Was my first fixed gear ride. Yow, what a way to discover unknown riding habits. Apparently I like to (try to) coast after hard accelerations. Ride was very plush and I could have gone longer. Good stuff!

badevilcow 07-15-07 08:15 PM

I really like every bike i've seen so far.. amazing how 3 frames can all look oh so different

badevilcow 07-15-07 08:16 PM

this will be a welcome step up from my trusty old super le tour i've been beating around on for the last two years.. it's almost complete woo hoo!

Nice. Looks light and fast. Even after a year riding fixed, just the other day, after a hard acceleration, and just beginning to ride a geared bike again lately, my mind wanted to coast. I almost got thrown off the bike.

It weighed in at ~19#. My '05 LeMond Sarthe (also steel) weighs in at 21#. Good to realize that if I go weight weenie on the Sarthe that I really don't have anywhere to go...

I also found a bad habit where I like to stop pedaling when sitting down after getting out of the saddle while climbing. After mentioning this to a roadie friend he said "Oh, yeah... I always noticed that". It's a bad habit to have when riding in groups...

Exactly how I plan to build mine up. No reason to pretend it's a track bike when I have two fancy REAL track bikes in the other room.

53cm black 1 1/8 steerer

parts:
FSA orbit xl II headset
mutant 3t stem
dimension 2" risers, chopped
oury gray grips
concor superlegga saddle
sugino BB
sugino XD SS cranks
suntour 42 tooth chainwheel
Time ATAC pedals
non machine deep v's laced to Miche hubs
EAI 17 tooth cog
shadow conspiracy chain
MKS chain tugs
gatorskin tires

Think that is it. I'm looking for a new saddle, other than that this is complete. I built this up to be my workhorse, so it needed to be built tough to stand up to the thrashing I am going to give it in the coming years. Oh and he is spinny as ****, and I love it.

Thanks Pat for the wheels, and the guys at revolutions and Therapy in philly.

the seat needs to come down a CM or two, I was fitting myself today. However, I am used to riding this:

Nice looking bike. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I also ordered a 62 cm. I'm 6'4". I rode my buddy seamus' 59cm bike up there and it fit good. So I was just wondering.

bonechilling 07-16-07 05:25 PM

Guys, if you're going to quote someone, please leave the dozen or so XL pictures out of the post.

hazylines 07-16-07 05:28 PM

Battles, yours is my favorite so far.. I saw a built matte black frame out on chestnut st today in philly. Had a white saddle I think. All these completes are making me jealous. My build should be done in about 2-3 weeks tops.

LtCmdrJoel 07-16-07 05:48 PM

Ohh the black is so awesome!
I really dig your build.

One item of safety though: your front tire may be on backwards.. :(

I am really bummed I missed the group buy.

6'3" with 90.5 cm true inseam. The bike is a good fit for my purposes, 8+ mi. commute and longer rides. It's the roughly the same standover as my 59 c-c LeMond Sarthe but I'm higher off the ground with the higher BB height (extreme tip-toe action when stopped and in the saddle).

You're right!

the wheel is on backwards - it was just in the back of my car. Thanks!

badevilcow 07-16-07 07:16 PM

yeah sweet bike! 42x17? hot dog! thats low.. i'm running 45x16 and it's nice.. since my crankset lets me pick a chain ring i've been tempted to go lower.. so hills are easier and i can do silly tricks easier..

reading a million low or high ratio threads.. yum

Road "tread" direction doesn't matter.

doofo 07-16-07 07:23 PM

i think that too but wonder why they still have a direction arrow

thanks man!

I was actually going for a white seat with white oury's, but I got tired of waiting. I wanted to ride it asap. Now I am kind of digging the black seat, I am just going to go for something a little slimmer.

badevilcow 07-16-07 08:06 PM

here's the parts list:
56 IROSSFG frame
165 sugino 75 cranks
DA 48t ring
Miche 18t cog
KMC chain
Shimano un53 BB
Suntour Sprint pedals
MKS toe clips

Bianchi seatpost
Selle italia flite saddle
bianchi seatpost
bianchi hubs/alex rims
vittoria rubino pro tires
FSA H/S
nitto jag AA 110 stem

The nitto 123's are borrowed from another bike of mine.
I'll most likely ride with the flat bars. i'm going to try some soma urban pursuits when they arrive in the mail.

I left the magic stick in the last photo so you can see how it was held up.

Quacker 07-16-07 11:02 PM

that build is real clean rooney I dig it.
