Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I don't like the idea of making my bike look like a motorcycle. If I wanted a motorcycle I would buy one.

I saw a guy in KC whose bike was basically a motorcycle frame with cranks and pedals added. I wish I had a picture, but it was a primer gray hunk o metal. He could cruise it pretty quickly though.

Maybe you'd prefer a scooter? An old Vespa perhaps?

i want to see more of these. there's something satisfying about a bike that could eat its rider. if it got hungry.

There was a guy at an alleycat in philly the other day who had a felt or spicer or something aero like that with a 3 spoke front completely painted flat black and flat clay red. It was pretty blasphemous and pretty mad max.

Those totally remind me of William Gibson's "Bridge Trilogy" and this one character, Nigel, who keeps telling Chevette she needs heavy steel and huge-ass racks and ****.

Edit: I'm referring to those two posts up, not the Ground Up.
