I'm actually surprised the same results doen't happen when you search by "IRO"
Or perhaps start making wheelchairs.

Funny you say that. If I could go back and rechoose a career I would probably go into mechanical engineering for the disabled. Some of the adaptations and devices made for prosthetics and wheelchairs are extremely cool.

it's impressive just how much cycling related googling will result in a bikeforums "archived" thread at the top of the page.

edit: typo fixed to appease the masses.

The real problem here is that Trek does basically nothing to push their T1 frame. If they cared even marginally, the first hits would sellers actually trying to push the T1, reviews from cycling-related websites (not forum discussions), and a link to their website. Honestly, I wonder why Trek even makes the T1, I've never actually seen one in competition.

They got to enter a new (for them) genre of cycling with minimal effort. Maybe not at the competition level, but at least at the recreation level, which is where the money is anyway.

Oh, and I found BF through Google, too. I was trying to find out if the bike I had just bought was actually any good.

It seems like the T1 is too expensive for your average street fixie, and while it seems like it'd be a decent racing bike, I never see it in use (probably because Trek doesn't seem to push it at all). In fact, the only one I've ever seen belongs to a neighbor of mine, who works at the Trek store, so I just wonder who is buying it.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that the poster probably committed a small typo, with the S and D keys being rather close together. Don't let that stop you from chastising him over something totally irrelevant, though!

From my experience and conversations with friends, it seems that the people buying the T1 are people in the high-end, complete-bike market, but don't want a Pista Concept.
Yeah, it's a hand-me-down frame from the Road Bike Engineers, but it's still got a few million dollars worth of engineering behind it. Probably more than any other frame out there.
I agree that they should market it better. Maybe get a pro racing team or sponsor some good riders. But, maybe they don't because it's a hand-me-down project that they don't want to sink too much money into.

For those that are wondering, manufacturers extend a discount to employees of shops that sell their products. These discounts are usually well below what the shop pays for the bikes. Employees usually only get one or two per year in their size at this discount.
It's a smooth move on the part of the bike manufacturer. Here's why?
Customer: I'm looking for a mountain bike.
Employee: Well, we carry Trek, Gary Fisher, Klein, Santa Cruz, Cannondale, Bianchi...
Customer: ??? Wow. That's a lot. I only have around $800 for this. So, what does that get me?
Employee: Let's see. We have about 15 different models for $800 or less.
Customer: ??? Um...what kind of bike do you have?
Employee: I ride a Trek 6000
Customer [Thinks]: This guy knows a lot about bikes and that's what he rides. That bike must be very good.
Customer: I'll take one, too!

I'm not a pro cycling coach, but I'd wonder if this bike would cut it at the professional or international competitive level. Even companies with their own "true" track frames (Felt, GT, Giant, Fuji) use rebadged Tiemeyer frames.

Precisely. My apologies to those of whom i may have offended due to my poor judgment. I'll be more careful next time.
