I don't know, I just went to south Florida for a week and if I lived there, I would never have a geared bike. But I would have a couple really nice lightweight SS bikes. 1. A road bike 2. a flat bar utility bike

Alot like what he has.

heres my bike. The bars are at kind of a funny angle in this picture. Sometimes people see the Indy fab sticker when their riding by and make comments, but it's just from their sticker kit.

They're not perfect but they're making an effort at least. The 2007 version of this bike had some flaws but it looks like Jamis really made an effort to correct them.

Off the top of my head:
- WTB wire bead tires are now Kenda Nevegals (foldable) ... I bought myself some Schwalbes before I found this out
- Rear hub is now cassette cog/spacer style (doesn't really matter except that the frame is designed to be run geared if you like)
- Stock gearing is now suited for the trails, as opposed to riding on the road to them
- 31.8mm bar and stem (from 25.4)
- hydraulic disc brakes (from mechanical)
- new frame design at the head tube to offer better fork clearance and strength (a gusset was added along w/ the tube manipulation)
- pedals upgraded (Crank Bros Candy Cs which are somewhat better than the uber ****e MXRs)
- different (better) cable routing along the top tube

Obviously when you're designing a new bike model (which this still is) there will be some things to tweak. I'm really happy with the changes Jamis made to the bike this year and that's why I ended up getting it.

From here I'm going to upgrade the wheels (I'm thinking DT 240s, DT Revolutions, Stans 355s) and then just enjoy the bike until I start breaking things, at which point I'll go for bling upgrades as the budget allows. If the bike eventually sees 20lbs (it's sitting at 25lbs stock except for the tire swap) I'll consider that "as light as it ever needs to be."

Edit: The only questionable thing about the bike I would tell someone is that the rigid fork is suspension corrected to 100mm (as opposed to 80mm). That doesn't bother me at all (the REBA comes with a spacer to swap between 80/100), but some people might take issue for whatever reason.

You can call BS all you want but I have weighed every single part of the builds. I even took pictures of the bikes on the scale in Grams and Pounds.

If you want I can even send pictures of each of the parts on the scale as I was weighing them. The cog is 5g the larger spacer is 9 grams and the smaller spacer is 6g. The only bad part about that set up is that I was stuck using an Ultegra locking ring which was 13g I think and one of them was 17g. I just put them on the scale quick and said **** they are heavy and I will have to order some new ones. The singulator on the road bike is 102 grams with the stock bolts but I will be getting some ti bolts or maybe some aluminum bolts to lower the weight a bit more.

I have taken great steps to get these bikes down to their weights while trying not to blow a ton of cash. Almost every single part was bought over the last 3 years on Ebay for great deals and when I could, I have tuned every single item.

So call BS all you want but I know the weights are 100% accurate!

Why build up three single speed/fixed gear bikes? Because I love bikes and I can.

Wait till you see my SUB 13 lbs. Pedal Force RS2 build that I am doing. I will take pictures of every single part on that build as it will be my best build yet.

I haven't had a chance to ride them yet. That should happen later on today or this week if the local trail system has dried out enough. I went with 2.25/2.25 (they're also available in 2.4).

I did have to use helium in the tires so it might float.

:crash:

srsly? the difference is so incredibly negligible that you might save a fraction of a gram.

Retem 04-13-08 12:24 PM

lightweight bikes are useless they all break under my heft ass

besides having a heavier bike can help when you come out of the hip on the track charge!!

Zombie Carl 04-13-08 01:00 PM

It just seems so incredibly lame to me.

But I bet he'd hate my bike too.

LOVE IT but honestly...my Brooks on my Moto. has that, nearly, that same seat angle...and it hurts. I'm forced to ride that way, for the time being, because the seat post angle is maxed out to its flatest postition (still leaving me with a slightly postive rise). Do you like yours that way or are you cornered like I am?
