I think black would look better. There are so many chrome/red bikes out there already..well at least in PDX

warfordium 08-08-08 02:26 AM

been on this thing for about 3 weeks now. used to ride downhill, then was gifted a road bike which was salvaged junk. but, in the end, there is nothing i hate more than derailleurs. so this was my summer treat with some extra cash thanks to a part-time job.

this was put together by Dream Cycle here in Vancouver. picked it all out. 46/17 with a white industries freewheel.

I'm not usually a fan of mixed-colour components, but still a great looking bike.

whats funny about deep-v's is that before everybody started hating on em, nobody left the decals on. now that everyone hates them, though, and gives everybody **** for leaving the decals on, the number of deep v's with decals still on just keeps increasing. it doesn't make any sense.

G60 08-09-08 01:45 AM

maybe most people don't care about what a few nobodies on the internet 'hate on'

NeilMonday 08-09-08 05:21 AM

If most people didn't care what other people think then Deep Vs wouldn't even be popular in the first place.

JayNev 08-09-08 06:14 AM

id rather have deep vs than weinmanns so maybe people express that by keeping the stickers on so everyone else knows.

either way its about $$ and showing off

anthegreat1 08-09-08 08:45 AM

some people beleive it or not like the way that deep V's look, and that's why they purchased them. I have them in black, and while they may be "played" out I'm the only person I know with them around my city. I'm sure some people just buy them because they are "in" but the reason the first set was sold was because someone liked the way they lookd/performed.

if you like them run them if you don't . . . . .don't run them

Jabba Degrassi 08-09-08 10:31 AM

God, you people are ****ing pathetic sometimes...

OH NOES TEH D33P VZORZ HAS STICKZORZ I R TEH INDIGNANT!!!

Dude, sweet deep-v's!! They are, like, so totally cool!

(Here hatin' the hate)

sdc 08-09-08 10:58 AM

I have mine set up the same way. I just puuuuuuuuull up hard on the cable to slow down.

onetwentyeight 08-09-08 11:43 AM

seriously? no offense, but that sounds like an incredibly dumb set up. a cross lever will run you 15 bucks and both be more effective, efficient and safer.

beethaniel 08-09-08 11:52 AM

there is a cross lever mounted on the left side of the bars, its just sitting at such an angle so the lever is pointing directly at the camera, making it really hard to see.

reedreeder 08-09-08 12:06 PM

i'm not hating deed v's, it's just interesting that more people leave their decals on now than ever, even though there's more haters around. geez guys, don't take it too personally.

Have we really fallen so far?

No, I was not serious.

Damn. That Frejus is nice. Did you pick that one up in that condition or was it restored?

onetwentyeight 08-09-08 01:03 PM

Thanks. all original, I built it from the frame up.

This is my 1973 Raleigh Record that I picked up locally for $15. It was a 10-speed and I kept it original until I crashed when the front brake came loose and locked up the front wheel.

Here's the parts/cost brakdown:

Bike: $15
27" Wheels, Sun M13-II laced to Dimension (I think?) hubs: $136 from FlyBikeShop.com
18T 1/8" Esjot Cog, Presta valve innertubes and nylon toe clips/straps: $25 Kraynick's (Pittsburgh)
Cork Grips: $10
Brake Shoes: $6
Bontrager mudguards: $40

Total $232

^is that a weird tape job or are those some goofy bars?

Cynikal 08-09-08 04:04 PM

I think it's the cables.

NAES 08-09-08 04:40 PM

Jamis Sputnik that I finished up this week. Soooo much nicer than my old conversion. Stem is too long so another is on the way but other than that I really, really like this bike.
