just a thought, personally i agree, a bike should be ridden like its stolen from the second its road-worth till it dies.
but its shore purty lookin', gold bits included. showbike. |

I'd rather have a bike that was solid and rode well than a really pretty bike I hated to ride because of some factor or another. |
I like the "in the build" pics and post a lot of them myself... it is nice to see how bikes evolve and you just have to take what people say here with a grain of salt as they tend to be hyper critical of anything that does not meet their idea of what's cool or right.
Right is what makes YOU happy. With that I think I'll be good with my Twenty for a little while... I have to put some black cloth over the new cork as it will really extend the life of the cork bar wrap. This bike started out as a lets build a stripped down folding pocket rocket and has evolved into lets build a folding retro club bike / tourer... it just happens. Here's the before: http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ipstwentya.jpg Here's somewhere in the middle: http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...restfixed6.jpg And here's where I'm at... and I am liking this. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...estnewside.jpg Now I have to find a classic looking handlebar bag and fabricate a rear rack for some matching saddlebags but I think I'm pretty happy with how the bike is shaping up. |
NJS bikes are so boring because they all look alike but indeed that is a very handsome bike. The gold really made things spicy! (is it a little big though?

and to everyone, when I say not finished, I'm changing out the chain, and probably the wheel set, I realized I don't have the cash for anoter Phil build so if anyone wants the one on the rear, it's for sale, I guess around....$270.00 for it. |

My wifes "new" commuter. Mavic rims, deore front hub, axiom s/s disc hub, 39X15. Zoom risers, fuji stem, old 105 cranks, crappy pedals and seatpost from when I got the frame. 2.0 tires. And non vintage Ourys. Fast and bombproof, rides over everything. Only thing I spent money on was the $20 for the saddle. Frame was a freebie I kept when I tried to tune up a friends bike that had seized hubs to the point the bearings were rusted on the hub. He bought a new bike, I got a great solid steel frame. Not sexy, but she loves it.

My new Level is almost finished! |
Function always needs to come before form... but if you can have both at once, go for it. I like that Level; gold bits and all. Not my style, but hey, I can respect the rider's taste, effort, and style.

it's a centimeter big, but I had a NOS Cannondale Track before this and it was rediculously small, so I figured I to go for this being that i'm still growing.

This is a bike that I bought at Value Village 12 years ago for $5. I gave it to my sister and 4 of her kids have leaned how to ride a bike on this little guy. The bike is probably about 40 years old and I like to think that other little kids learned on it before my nieces and nephews got their mitts on it. The front fender was lost ages ago and that is about the third bell the kids have gone through, 3 year olds love ringing that bell. Even the tires are new, the first two kids wore them out and these ones will have to be replaced before the 5th kid gets her chance on it. The training wheels will probably be coming off soon as Anne the 4 year old is doing pretty well on it now and wants to try taking one side off soon.
It is the best $5 that I have ever spent. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...hEz/Mar012.jpg |
that bike is too big for you. look at the seat slammed all the way down...lol.
