you should turn your brake levers around so the cables will be below your horns and they could be a bit shorter, just a thought it works well on my single speed

Matt, where's that picture taken? looks familiar.
Probably looks like any thousand elevators around, though... |

Hey guys I've been an obsessive lurker since April and I can now finally show you my bike. I've learned basically everything I know about bikes from reading all the material presented on this site.
So this summer I was able to acquire my uncle's old Fuji road bike in the hopes of converting it to a fixed gear. Due to the lack of funds, I decided to convert it into a single speed instead of a fixed gear by reusing the rear wheel. I did this by removing the old cassette, re-spaced/re-dished the wheel and threaded on a 16 tooth shimano freewheel. I took off the outer chainring and got some short stack bolts. I was pretty surprised to see that the chainline was fairly straight. The bike rides smooth and quiet and it is a blast to ride. I decided to repaint the frame because of the fair amount of surface rust and the condition of the existing paint job. To paint it, I stripped the frame primed, and rattled canned it using the directions from the thread about spray painting frames. The paint job was the hardest and most expensive part of the project thus far. The paint job is fairly soft so I know it will chip eventually. I'm still deciding if I should cover it with electrical tape or utilize other techniques to protect the paint job. Any ideas? The only non-stock parts that I used are the saddle, seatpost, and front wheel. All of which I found in the dumpster during move out day at my school's dorm. If it looks a bit weird the front wheel is 700c while the back is the original 27 inch. I know that using only a front brake on a single speed is dangerous but the other brake lever was broken so I am in the process of getting some new/used brake levers. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3247/...6ab96411_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3167/...a1d9e184_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/...0571bcff_b.jpg Any ideas on what color bar tape I should use? I think white would look nice but I know it will get dirty in a week. I used some on my old red nishiki 10-speed and it didn't stay white for too long. Maybe just some generic silver/grey tape or some light blue tape to match the frame. It is still a work in progress and I'll probably never be finished with. This was my first experience with bike mechanics and I am just addicted to it now. For all of you bike purists out there, the bike was pretty beat up when I got it (broken shifters/derailers, rust, paint chips) so it's not like it would have been better off leaving it as a 10 or 12 speed. I still love the classic look of an old 10 speed. |

Yeah, black levers would have been cool. But I'm pretty happy overall with it, the whole black-with-silver-accents thing is understated and has a sort of tux-n-tails feel, to me. I'd requested black hubs, but wanted 36H more, so silver it was! Loving the hell out of the ride now I got the Brooks on there. (For the record, the Cardiff saddle was fine but I need a spring with the upright posture--kills the back otherwise.) |
New seatpost and stem to come. Too lazy to adjust the Cont. label to valves.
Anyone wanna trade saddles? The Forte hurts my arse.:( http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/e...05027_6574.jpg http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/e...05030_7667.jpg http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/e...05032_8268.jpg |

Min, I saw your post about selling that bike over at Serotta forums, and sat there wishing is was a bit smaller so I could make an offer, but I'm really glad to see you kept it now. Too much uniqueness going on with that bike to just sell it outright.
The Zipp/King disk wheels alone are amazing, and then 1x9 and the rest of the build?! P.S. - I like the carbon post and flite more than the supertype and regal...I know I like my Flite more than any Regal |
Farkel- Why not put the brake lever over by the grip where it can be reached?

MIN, I'm not meaning to be a jerk at all, just curious. I've followed the mods to this bike in the CX forum and wondered why pursue light weight at the loss of functionality. |
