well i took a link outta my chain so my tensioner wasn't maxed out anymore. i put the chain back on with the wheel in the dropout, so im not even sure if i will be able to get the wheel off without braking the chain since the axle is so far into the dropout. also just barely clears the brake bridge with a 28c tire on there. chain is a little tighter than i would like but it needs to be that way so it wont rub.
In other words, try a smaller tire size. |

that doesnt make sense. If you loosened your chain a bit it would give you more clearance from your bridge, not less. Loosen your chain or go buy a half link.

I had a similar issue & started looking for a half link. I feared going down in tire size because I'm a big dude. Then I switched to 23c Kevlar tires & which I had done so sooner. Higher psi, less rolling resistance, chain is looser which will add to drivetrain longevity, quieter drivetrain, etc.
In other words, try a smaller tire size. and yes its a lot of seatpost, but thats compact geometry for ya. once i stumble on some money it will be replaced with a thompson 410, this ones too springy. dropouts on this bike are **** by the way. by cinching down the nuts to stop the axle from sliding, i sandwiched the steel plates, thus smushing them to contour around the axle. after taking the wheel on/off a few times it spread those plates, which even spread the aluminum dropouts apart. |

no, loosening my chain would involve pushing the axle further forward, INTO the bridge. either way im picking up a half link tomorrow so i have some room to move the axle forward. gonna try one of the spare links from my TSC interlock chain first though...

Hm... you said you took off a link though? Leaving the link on and loosening the chain and it still doesn't clear the bridge?
moving it forward will push it closer to the brake bridge... |

I changed a lot of stuff on this bike after this photo was taken. First of all, the handlebars are now bullhorns, put on a different saddle, the pedals ARE NOT those **** plastic ones anymore, added clips and straps, formula flip flop hub, went up to the larger chainring (52T I think) and put on a 16T surly track cog. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...CRW_0083-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...e/CIMG7435.jpg |
wowsers batman!! both bikes have two wheels!
