Quick flick of the Surly, freshly built up ... almost done getting all the decals off. Front anchor going on as soon as I can find a black long reach. Any reccommendations?

Interesting that they use integrated headsets on a bike built for abuse.

BMX integrated headsets... 4545 campy bearings. I think they can handle the abuse...

I was just going to take a picture at the BMW shop of the butting tonight. Since they're around the corner.
LuLz at butting... heh

mks steel clips and mks straps

Sixty Fiver 09-04-08 09:53 AM

You can't go wrong with MKS pedals... they aren't quite as nice as my Suntour Superbe pedals but come pretty close.

Yeah, I have to admit, I was a bit confused as to why he wanted to see the butting. But I took my best guess... [and made myself look like a clown]

Suttree 09-04-08 11:53 AM

I was just curious about the thickness of the tubes. The
Steamroller you cracked in half probably has like a 9-6-9
profile which is really thick compared
to other bikes. Seems like the BMW people would have thought
this through carefully considering how crazy people get on
those bikes.

Thanks. Unfortunately I couldn't set it up so it wasn't backlit at that time of day in that location. The paint is without the usual sparkles btw.

Components are:

Wheels - NOS Campagnolo Omega V hardox rims on Phil hubs with Phil cog
Crank and BB - Dura Ace Octalink
Seatpost - Dura Ace
Headset - Hatta Swan
Stem and bars - Nitto
Tires - Conti Sprinter tubular

trons 09-04-08 07:44 PM

don't tell me those are road bars...
edit: yep...

I know, I know...:o

Nitto 135. It's because I had them, and they have a shallower drop than the track bars. This frame is about 2cm smaller than I normally ride, so I wanted to see what sort of drop would result and how it would ride before buying new bars. They're on my list, don't worry...

deathhare 09-04-08 08:00 PM

Mine doenst have sparkles either. :)
Phil hubs are ok but that bike deserves some Japanese hubs. ;)

I considered Dura Ace, but couldn't get any quickly in 36-hole, which the (Italian) rims are. I also heard it's against the wheelbuilders' code to put Campy rims on Shimano hubs...
Looks like some Araya rims and Dura Ace hubs are in order for the winter.

*sigh*. OK, move my pic to the Jackass thread....

Suttree 09-04-08 08:06 PM

High end Japanese hubs are smoother but not as bomb proof.

I recently chose Phils over Dura Ace for that reason.

That would definitely make this build absolutely irresistible. Please post a pic after you do that.
