Thanks. The brake hoods definitely make sense though because it creates more hand positions. It's having bullhorns and drops all in one

Yeah I understand the practicallity of doing that. Just the looks dont work for me. But like I said, I love the frame, just a few things I would change if it were mine. :)

For some reason, the cranks on the spectrum seem out of place to me. Swap for something newer and put some horns on there or track drops without hoods and it would look awesome.

pretty sure their cane creek track V, that spectum is a beauty but the components aren't aesthetically pleasing together. if you do get new cranks ill take those campy's off your hands.

I had Campy's on them, but the arms rubbed the chainstay, so I have to order a longer BB and see if that solves it

I wanted something that was comfy and this bar setup does it. Track drops are the worst for street use since the tops aren't comfy (for me)

DARTHVADER 02-07-09 04:09 PM

with the crimp in the chainstay i'd think you wouldn't have a problem with campy cranks rubbing.
i like your bike.
was it built for the woundup fork? what's the rake? didn't the spec sheet call for something like 35mm rake to arrive at how Tom deisgned it?

Thanks. It's the end of the arms that kiss the stays, but it's because the stays are so round and fat compared to ovalized stays. I have to call Tom and see what he says about it.

The fork is 36 rake. By turning the fork dropout 180, you reduce the rake. Here's the geo sheet

The first pair (Track V) I found a guy who didn't use them anymore and sold them for a good deal. I sold them (for the same price I got them) when I found the V-33s (which I was always in love with) on ebay

These were on ebay brand new (and double fixed) for around the same price as Ellipses (mind you they go for $915 if you buy them from Cane Creek directly)

A couple years ago Ben's had the clinchers for $275 and the tubulars for $225 with tubulars.

rduenas 02-07-09 07:28 PM

How long are the crank arms? If you run a shorter arm, you'd get more clearance.

Gyeswho 02-07-09 08:40 PM

naw it's not going to do a thing. they are 170s, but 165 would still be way too close because it's on both sides. The non drive side is worse

beer and rollers. i almost puked.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../beernight.jpg

nice bike gyeswho. it looks awesome with the campy record pistas. I hope you find a way to make it work with a wider bottom bracket spindle. It also looks a lot more useful with the road cockpit vs the track drops. good work and enjoy the ride. what is the seatpost diameter? it's huge.

camashtorcal 02-07-09 09:02 PM

Gyeswho, would you reconsider getting black Omniums w/ silver ring or vice versa? I'm wondering if you would get better clearance. Plus I think they would just go better overall with your build. Incredible bike though.

alaska 02-07-09 09:20 PM

i love the sugino cranks. they look better than the campy ones, imo.

Gyeswho 02-07-09 09:48 PM

Thanks for the suggestions. Seatpost is a 31.6

doug - I wouldn't want to weaken the integrity of the cranks

Omniums won't work either. They were the original cranks I planned for the build but the spider arms rubbed the chainstay instead of the actual crank arms themselves, like how the campys do.
